It should say on the container if it is flux core. If it doesn't, then it probably isn't. You will know as soon as you try to solder something. If it just clumps up and doesn't want to flow smoothly, then chances are it has no flux. And as was previously stated, you should be able to see the core if you look at the end of the solder.

try soldering something besides your megadrum to get a little practice and work out these kind of bugs. ;)

Hmm I guess you're right then. I can't see any clear core. I can't find any online stores here in Sweden that sells solder tin with a flux core. I'll drive to a tool shop and ask them about it.
Thanks for the quick answers guys!

That solder should work fine if you have some flux paste. You should put the joint you are working on. I sometimes take a piece of cardboard and smear a light coat over the entire board. Flux core is much cleaner though.

What about ELFA? I believe they have a pretty large central stock in Stockholm.

Yes they probably have it, but the shipping cost from Elfa is ridiculous. But if I'm visiting Stockholm I wouldn't hesitate to drive by Elfa and buy a lot of stuff. They have pretty much everything a DIY'er can dream of.

The latest "silver" solder has replaced the lead based products because it's better for us.
Lead based fluxed core is *much* better - if you can find it.

I've found some solder tin that might do the trick. 1mm thick, 40% tin, 60% lead and 2,5% flux

I tried to read it with a translator, but it kept sending me back to the website home page! Sorry I am only mono-lingual, I really envy those of you that can speak several languages.

Finally, I've ordered the tools and material to start soldering my MegaDrum. I'll use my crappy old solder-station and the stuff I've ordered today (my solder sucker sucks too, so I hope I'll never have to use it).

Here's what I ordered:

    Helping Hands with magnifier
    Solder Wick/Braid
A couple of tongs for electronics
1mm thick Solder tin with flux core
    Experimenting card
    Some components to test solder
    Anti-Static Wrist Strap with Cord
