Roland FD8 not functioning on reset or firmware upgrade

Postby kurtus420 » Fri Sep 25, 2009 4:28 am

My Roland FD8 hihat pedal is not functioning after I upgrade my firmware and default settings are loaded or if I reset megadrum with right key I get this outcome. If I switch the hihat impedace switch to the center off position and back down to the low impedance it starts to work, I then have to save to config slot 1 and set autoload config to yes so that I dont have to do this everytime. I switched to big vumeter for the first time today to tweak the pedal for the for the best performance from open to closed but when the pedal is in the full open(not depressed) state the meter bar show full bars until the end and then it shows a half bar with 1 full missing bar....not sure if that makes sense or not, its like I cant get it configured to full open only 98.5% open. I have it set to lowlevel 30 and hilevel 160, anything higher than that starts to send midi notes or at least the midi led starts randomly flashing.

My FD8 is set to HiLvl 159, so nothing wrong there. I assume LevelsAuto is set to NO. Did you try lowering the value a bit to get the last 1½ %?
For a more accurate reading, you should use Midi-Ox.

Just checked, my Big VU is also missing the last 1½ bars. Tbh I think it's like so by design, to make it reckonisable when it's at max.

Thanks gabriel1712 for comfirming this for me, I will have to see what dmitri thinks but I'm still not sure why I have to introduce my hihat pedal to megadrum everytime I update or reset megadrum. Thanks for posting your settings on the other thread, it's been most helpful!! :D

Your assumption is correct, I only used levelsauto to get a starting point with my pads and then I change it to no.

Hey gabriel1712, how does your hihat pedal funtion if you do a right key default reset or if you update your firmware? Still works? Thanks man.

Dmitri, no thoughts as to what might be causing the main issue here, gabriel1712 has confirmed that my settings are very similar to his, is the outcome on the bigvu the way it should be?

By the main issue you mean "pedal is not functioning after I upgrade my firmware"? If yes, and hardware problems are excluded, then I can only suspect that with AutoLevels left at defaults MegaDrum doesn't set High/Low levels correctly for FD8 so you have to do it manually.

I'll check the next time it comes natural to do either. I have a demanding jam coming up shortly and so I dare not 'provoke' my current setup.

sorry I'm not be as clear as I could be  .Yes, this is exactly what I mean dmitri, so what I have been doing would be ok then. Any other fd8 users care to chime in with their experiences that they have when loading new firmware and trying to reset to default with right key? Does your fd8 still function as always or is it not responding as if it's not plugged in? Will it respond if you unplug it and plug it back in or if you switch your impedance switch to off or high then back to low? Thanks for all your responses here guys. ;)
