If your wooden boards are thick enough why not use screws?

I will use screws and glue on all places except for the top where I want to be able to open it fast and easy. My main concern was that magnetism might interfere or erase data from the MegaDrum. Is that a valid concern or am I just too careful?

I'm pretty sure it would take a lot more than a small magnet several inches from your board to mess it up. I wouldn't advise sticking it right next to your IC though.

Ok, I might give it a try then. I'll use two magnets on each side of the enclosure and see how it works.

Still nothing from conrad.com. :x
This is more than frustrating and on top of everything I caught a cold today and feel pretty sick. My plan was to work a lot on my enclosure this weekend, but without the stuff I ordered and my new friend..the cold! We'll see how it goes.

Here's the stuff for the text I'm about to put on my enclosure:

Woohaa! I finally received my rotary encoders! 8-) ..and as usual I'm clueless of how to connect anything by looking at schematics.
I'll provide as much info and pictures as possible so that any of you knowledgeable and helping souls can show me the path without much effort.

Synthex schematic of how to connect the encoders:
Image
Encoders Connector :
1 - Encoder Left / Right (pin 4)
2 - Encoder Left / Right (pin 2)
3 - GND (pin 1, 3)
4 - Encoder Up / Down (pin 2)
5 - Encoder Up / Down (pin 4)

My two rotary encoders are: ALPS STEC11B02

There is a link to the data sheet for the rotary encoders (http://www2.produktinfo.conrad.com/date ... C11B02.pdf)
but it doesn't say me much. Here's a picture of an extract from the data sheet:

I love visual explanations. A picture can say more than a thousand words
I've prepared a picture for someone willing to draw the connections from my two rotary encoders to the synthex board:

C corresponds to the pins 1 and 3 on the Synthex's diagram.
A and B correspond to the pins 2 and 4 on the Synthex's diagram.

Looks to me like pin "C" on the encoder will go to pin "3" on the socket. The "A" pins on the encoder will go to pins "2" and "5" on the socket and the "B" pins on the encoder will go to pins "1" and "4" on the socket.

I am not absolutely positive so it might be a good idea to wait for a second opinion on this one. Maybe Firelord is lurking about.

Thank you guys! It worked like a charm! This means that I have all the functionality I want and can concentrate on my enclosure. Expect new pictures pretty soon. 8-)

I've read the thread about the optical hihat controller and I think I might give it a try :geek: I'm not perfectly happy with my DIY potentiometer variable hihat. It works pretty good, but it's a bit clumsy and not responsive enough. I've started to search for the components required to build the optical hihat controller and if I decide to try it out I'll start another thread.

Hi Jman 31
I'm curious about the encoders and have a question if you don't mind or anybody else who knows

I want to use rotary encoders and Jmans link has a 24 pulse and Dimtre's has a 16 pulse per rotation
is one better than another?

Thanks

Oh and RockDude, did you finish your enclosure yet? I read all 13 pages ya can't leave us hanging :P
