hall-effect sensor for variable hi hat control

Ok I've tried all sorts of combinations to get my hall effect sensor to respond in any way and it's seem like both of them is totally dead strangely enough. I just tried connecting a linear 100k potentiometer and I got a signal without much tweaking...does that mean that I can rule out a faulty pedal input?

Yes, you can rule it out.
To be honest I didn't look into the hall sensor pedal design closely but at the first glance I would suspect the sensor might not get enough power from MegaDrum or the sensor's polarity is wrong.

as my megadrum isn't working right now i still managed to get good results by measurements (multimeter) and the hall effect sensor (from bitsbox.co.uk) and the ring-magnets (supermagnete.de)

everything seemed fine.

in my order from bitsbox.co.uk i also ordered a reed magnet.
and that also checks out fine on the multimeter for readings.
but i'm pretty sure they (reed magnet switches) are only ON/OFF type.

anyone knows for sure?

which is a bummer since they would be easier to hook up.

It's not a magnet either.

It's a magnetic reed proximity switch. It switches on or off in proximity to a magnetic field.
It will serve no purpose for what you are trying to accomplish.

I have some troubles finding a sensor locally, but I found this one :

It looks a lot like the 1302 version, but do you think it will do the job?

They have a 5mV/G (A1321LUA-T) and a 2.5mV/G (A1323LUA-T), and I don't know enough about this stuff to decide what to by, maybe I should just by 'em both

First of all; Allegro say the 35xx series has been discontinued.
I think the old 3503 could be replaced with the 1302, but the 1321 looks as if it is *much* more
sensitive (just like me really).

Anyway, try a 1 - 10K pull up resistor between supply and output - some of these things have a sink output.

Hi. I had experience with the sensor ss495. It well works with a small magnet(diameter 10mm). On a photo below you can see a pedal design. The sensor is in a black box, the magnet is attached to the top lath. Press a pedal - the magnet comes nearer also a signal on an exit smoothly varies. I think that this design is much easier, than optical or potentiometer controller.
