Okay ... what?

Postby blastbeat » Tue Feb 19, 2008 8:53 am

First I'll apologize for being very, very uninformed. I've tried reading the site (I wouldn't ask otherwise) but some stuff just isn't penetrating as I'm not an EE person. The toughest electric thing I've made are my e-drums.

I'm looking at MegaDrum as a possible replacement for my Roland drum module. First, is this a reasonable goal? I guess this breaks down to the following questions which would probably make a good sticky:

- Is it possible to use MegaDrum to route a bunch of percussion triggers to a MIDI drum program like EZDrummer via Cubase, with all the 'special' stuff drum modules have like hi-hat position sensing, three-zone ride, etc?
- If so, is this possible with MegaDrum as stand-alone hardware (using the USB MIDI device outlined in this forum) or will the user still need a sound card with MIDI in or other MIDI in device for their computer?
- What other than MegaDrum and something like Cubase is necessary to use MegaDrum as part of a 'real time' MIDI virtual drum module? As a point of reference I'm currently using my SoundBlaster MIDI in with monitoring on and I get about a 0.5 second delay between drum hit and triggered sound. Using MegaDrum is it possible to get these to perfectly synch with low-cost hardware?
- Finally, are any of the kit sellers offering the complete kit with the USB MIDI card?

Thanks.

Yes, it's a reasonable goal ... if you don't have the TD20 module ;)

Yes, it's possible and recommended to use MIDI drum program like EZDrummer, DFH, BFD, ... with MegaDrum.
Position sensing is not yet implemented.
Three-zone ride is possible.

MegaDrum is full plug n play USB stand-alone hardware.
You don't need a sound card with MIDI IN or other MIDI IN device.

You need to use MIDI drum program like EZDrummer, DFH, BFD.
MegaDrum hardware have very very low latency (about 4ms).
ASIO driver can help to have low latency with your computer.

I sell a "All In One" PCB kit (with the USB) :
