Help: switch crash, choked show 3 yellow bars in MCT

Postby whiskey29 » Thu Aug 19, 2010 11:13 am

Hi all,
I am stumped. Firmware is latest 20100801
The same diy cymbal, if I put it in crash channel if I press the choke switch, 3 yellow bars shown in MCT.
If I put it into aux1, its only show 2 yellow bars if pressed.

Also, in aux1, I can hit it like crazy and crash works just fine.
in crash channel, after playing it a few times, usually after hitting it hard a couple of times and sometimes make it crosstalk with the tom1, the cymbal would just freeze. only will unfreeze If I pressed the choke or reset the unit of course, and works again until it freezes.

I I can provide any data to be analyzed I would be more than happy to do it.

thanks

Sorry, what do yellow bars mean?

1. More details about your DIY cymbal.
2. Provide all settings for Aux1 and Crash.
3. If you use in Aux2 the same settings as in Aux1, does Aux2 work fine?
4. If you use in Ride the same settings as in Crash, does Ride freeze?

Chokes. If you have three yellow bars then that input is configured as a 3-zones pad. If you get 2 bars then the input is 2-zones

Thanks dmitri and elrules.
The yellow bar is chokes when viewed in the velocity log.
1. More details about your DIY cymbal.

1. The DIY crash construction is simple, piezo conencted to tip and sleeve. a switch at the bottom for choke to ring and sleve.

2. Provide all settings for Aux1 and Crash.

2. Settings are as follow
Crash channel HEAD RIM
Note Number 16 16
Midi Channel 10 10
Curve Log1 Log1
Comp. Level 0 0
Level shift 0 0
Crosstalk 2 2
Crosstalk Group 0 0
Threshold 30 20
Gain 1 2
Hilevel Auto YES YES
High LEVEL 1022 500
Retrigger 8 8
Dynamic Level 6 6
Dynamic Time 32 32
Min Scan Time 20 20
Dual Head YES SWITCH
3rd zone disabled

AUX1 channel HEAD RIM
Note Number 57 58
Midi Channel 10 10
Curve Log1 Log1
Comp. Level 0 0
Level shift 0 0
Crosstalk 2 2
Crosstalk Group 0 0
Threshold 30 30
Gain 4 4
Hilevel Auto NO YES
High LEVEL 992 992
Retrigger 8 8
Dynamic Level 6 6
Dynamic Time 32 32
Min Scan Time 20 20
Dual Head YES SWITCH
3rd zone disabled

3. If you use in Aux2 the same settings as in Aux1, does Aux2 work fine?

3. Yes it works fine with the same crash pad.

4. If you use in Ride the same settings as in Crash, does Ride freeze?

4. No the ride doesn't freze. The ride is constructed similary, except it has two switch. I have another question for ride switch, but one thing at a time :)

5. I have tried to change the cable to crash input, it still the same problem so its not cable.

6. The velocity log for the weird choke is as follow ( with the setting as point number 2). What I undestand is there should be only 2 choke bar for a choke switch pressed since 3rd zone is disabled.
a. The crash channel, shown 3 choke bar. First note number 39, second note number 16, third note 47.
b. Same pad on aux1 channel, shown only 2 bar, first note number is 57, second note number is 58

7.
a. If i hit the pad on crash channel, If I set the dualhead to NO, it would freeze shortly after playing the crash pad only.
If I set it to YES, it doesn't freeze no matter how hard or fast I hit it.
BUT even if I set to YES it still freeze when I played just kick, snare and crash the crash input freeze almost instantly.
b. crash pad on aux1 or aux2, same play, same setting, works perfectly.

Thanks in advance.

You say that the 3rd zone is disabled on the Crash (you didn't list all the settings). How do you know that?

An observation. You really should use HiLvlAuto set to Yes only for initial setup. After best settings are found you should set HiLvlAuto to No on all inputs.

Hi Dmitri,
the bell note on the 3rd zone is set to disabled, isn't that mean the 3rd zone is disabled ?

I will check them out again when I got time. But still I can't figure out why the choke switch produces 3 choke bar as seen on MCT only on crash channel. I will post the screenshot for the setting later on.
