Mister Scutt,

You've made a few statements. These statements may give other forum users false impression of MegaDrum capabilities. I pointed it out. You decided to ignore this and chose to go personal. To me it is "flaming" - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_%28Internet%29. I don't like flaming, that's all.

I apologize, I wasn't trying to misrepresent Megadrum... I was just excited about microdrum. :)

Hello.

Kind of restoring the topic. I originally intended to build a Megadrum. Then, talking with an engineer in electronics, he told me that PICs were kind of old tech, and I should give a try to Arduino board.

Searching the forum and following Jman's link, I found the microDRUM site. Since my knowledge about electronics is pretty low, decided to take that project as a starting point. Don't know if it will fit my needs, but I'm confident that I'll learn some before try with Megadrum.

If anyone is interested, I'm posting my progress in the microDRUM forum, my nick is VHDrums.

Greetings everyone!

Just FYI, PIC's are current tech. Atmel (Atmega, which is what arduino uses) is just a brand of micro-controller that is no better or worse then Microchip's PIC's. There is a different chip for just about every conceivable application and you just have to find one that is suitable for what you are doing. Arduino's are extremely easy to program and write code for, which makes them a good choice for beginners. However, Dmitri has used a great chip for his application. And just so you know, the PIC that is on his board is simply for USB control. The actual "brain" if you will, is an Atmel product. At least on the DIY version. I can't remember what he is using on his newer smd version.

Good luck with your project. I hope it goes great for you. That is the cool thing about DIY, you can do just about whatever you can conceive and there is usually more than one way to skin a cat.

Regards,
Jman

Couldn't agree more! ;)

As you can "feel" from my last post, electronics are not my primary activity, so I tend to carefully listen to advice from people who should know.

Somehow I conclude [might be wrong] that the Arduino board is quite similar to the digital bit of Megadrum. At $35 dollars, seems to be something to try before transfer-etch-drill-solder the synthex 2.5 board, as I intended first.

Unfornatelly, found that the purpose of this topic became in trolling Megadrum and Dmitri, and I won't [and don't want to] critizise'em, nonetheless, I believe it's a great project and still looking forward to complete it someday. I mean, never get tired of new drum modules! :D
