pic programming failed

just finished building..still getting a zero reading on pin 14...im using a 470n 100v capacitor connected to pin 14...i think this is the one causing the problem...do you think so?...

If the capacitor is in working order, then no, I do not think so.

i am having the same problem recently too.

here is my voltage readings on the pic18f2550:

pin 1 = 4.71v
pin 8 = 0v
pin 14 = 0.15v
pin 19 = 0.31v
pin 20 = 0.16v
pin 26 = 0v

i have checked the soldering and that is fine and the board has no breaks in it. i am using a synthex 2.8 kit with the 47k resistor wired in to ground. does it look like i need to purchase another pic18f2550? or is there something more i should be doing?

i have tried multiple times with every combination of settings on the computer, i have checked my wiring of the programming cable, and i have even put 5v straight to the chip to make sure it was getting enough power.

i am mostly worried about voltages that i am getting, is there something wrong with the chip?

I had the same programming problem. The solution that worked for me is making an ART2003 programmer and used WinPic800.

If soldering is good, wiring is correct, the chip is powered and the WinPic configuration is right than it leaves only one answer - PIC is faulty/broken.

thank you for your reply germtangc, unfortunately i cannot justify building the art2003 programming module because i am fairly confident my chip is faulty, however i will try again using winpic800. hopefully it works out.

this may be a silly question, but i would like to know before i decide to purchase another chip. If my pic18f2550 has worked before, is it possible it has become damaged or faulty even by not fiddling with it? it stopped working when the usb cord was accidently pulled out while trying to read information from it via mct.

hmm that is unfortunate news... now i am unsure what is wrong. anyway, i have checked my voltages again, and now they are all correct except pin 20 reads 0v instead of 5v, is there a specific reason for this?
