Rim Piezo needed or not?

Postby Chrescht » Thu Sep 08, 2011 4:17 pm

Hi all,

As im am converting my kit from A to E and just ordered the Megadrum Minimal Kit from Dmitri, i now have a question about the snare/toms Rim Piezo.

As Megadrum supports Positional Sensing, do i still need the Rim Piezo or is a Rimshot detected via Positional Sensing over the Center Piezo?

I am little bit confused....

Thx for your help

You have of course read this: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1215.
Also, have you carefully read MegaDrum configuration and in particular http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings ?

Yes i have read both!

I understood that PS works with the Center Piezo only.
But i could not find the answer to my question, sorry.

I am a beginner with drums.

The question is, that if you play with the sticks near the rim, is the sound than the same as a rimshot? Or does for a rimshot sound Megadrum still need the rimpiezo?

Thx and sorry

Positional sensing sends CC messages with the note number of the head to instruct the receiving end to vary this particular sound. It has nothing to do with the rim hence positional sensing and the rim are not mention anywhere together.
