You yourself show the link to the last unencrypted firmware and after this you state that you "can't try my DIY megadrum module".
Seems like logic is missing.

Hi all,
I'm trying to update the latest megadrum FW ("megadrum1284_56_20120415.bin") but it fails ("megadrum is not responding").
Here is what i'm doing step by step (as you will ask me) :

- Megadrum is on connected to my mac book pro (MacOS 10.6.8) via USB
- I start MDM
- I open the option to detect the megadrum , the current FW version is detected (20120303)
- FW upgrade via the main menu in MDM
- then i follow the step described (i select 20MHz when required)
- after have clicked DOWN button, "StartUpdateOnPC" appears on the megadrum display, then i click the start button is MDM
- after 2 seconds , "megadrum is not responding" appears
- Megadrum shows the start screen <Megadrum.info> ....

Thks for your help guys,

Arnaud

Hi

I also had the same problem on a Windows PC, but I solved using Md firmware update. :D

dmitri, how about making the update process simpler?
Is it possible? Would it take too much of your time? (which we appreciate ofcourse)
Now it`s pretty complex and frustrating. I installed the initial firmware once I got the MD from you and I never updated it after that. Just because of the complexity ...

I load firmware into new MegaDrums all the time without any problems unless, very rarely, I have an electrical problem on a board right after soldering. You need to follow the upgrade procedure only once in a while so I don't see a point to simplify the procedure - even if it goes wrong there is no dnager to the protected bootloader so you can always recover and load a latest firmware version.

OK, I just updated the firmware using this tool, which was much easier than the usual method.
But seems like all the configs saved in MD are lost - I kept getting Failed when I tried to load them.
Don`t have to mention I freaked out, as I don`t have them saved on my comp.
So, then I started to set the pads and everything again. This time I created an MDS file and I also went to Save Config in MD and saved it. When I rebooted it and tried to load it, I again got Failed.

What can I do?

Configs saved in EEPROM are not guaranteed to be compatible with a newer firmware versions. You really should save your configs to a PC before an upgrade.

Create a new topic describing the problem and exact steps for me to reproduce the problem. It seems like you save and then try to load configs with different MaxInputs or CustomNamesEn. You first must make sure MaxInputs and CustomNamesEn are saved in EEPROM before powering off. See http://www.megadrum.info/content/miscellaneous-settings

OK, you saved my day. The problem was in MaxInputs. Default is 18 and I was using 20 inputs, so that prevented me from loading my configs.
Anyway, that MDUpdate tool is great and you should put it directly in the first post of this thread so new users know about it. I accidentally stumbled upon it.
It eases the update process very much. Basically, that`s what I had in mind when I mentioned simplifying the update process ...
