Feature Request for Hi-Hat Levels

Postby tobykea » Sun Jun 17, 2012 3:31 pm

Hi Dmitri, I am wondering whether or not you would entertain the idea sometime of adding two extra or maybe more, Hi-Hat level settings?

Currently there are 5 from what I can tell:

Open , Semi Open, Half Open, Semi Closed and Closed.

I'm sure there are many users here that are using VST instruments such as Superior Drummer and BFD which have more articulations available than can be set in Megadrum.

Superior Drummer has 7 articulations from Tight Closure to fully open. They are Tight, Closed, Open 1, Open 2, Open 3, Open 4 and Open 5. I believe BFD may have more than this.

Being able to configure Megadrum with thresholds and Note numbers for a few more articulations would allow users to take advantage of the VST instrument's full range of articulations allowing for an even more realistic Hi-Hat experience.

As it is the Megadrum is the best thing since sliced bread for me. I've managed to put together a kit that rivals the features of most of the kits on the market in my mind and at a fraction of the cost. For that I thank you for making this all a reality for all of us. Your commitment to this project has been very admirable. There are a lot of happy drummers around the world because of the work you've done and are doing.

Let me know what you think Dmitri.

As it stands I don't think there is a way to take advantage of the extra articulations in Superior Drummer for example without having 2 more configurable HiHat fields within Megadrum.

I have been known to be wrong at times so if someone knows how to do this without the need for these features to be added to Megadrum I'd love to know.

Many thanks and happy drumming.

Cheers,

Toby

I think the 5 articulations of hihat Open , Semi Open, Half Open, Semi Closed and Closed are avaible if you use the controller type:Pot

If you use " F.Control" you enable the cc#4 control change message, with good setting of "HI level" "Low Level" etc. you can use all the available thresholds and intermediate hihat controller value without mapping the various sounds of articulation for each threshold. :D

Hi Maylord, thanks for the info.

So if I were to use the CC4 messages to control the articulations within Superior Drummer for example, how would one configure the Closed, Semi Closed, Half Open, Semi Open fields within Megadrum?

Do I need to set the Levels for these items in Megadrum and do I need to assign notes to them inorder to use CC4 messages? I'm thinking we don't.

Are these to be left blank and the "Learn Function" within SD is to be used to then map the incoming CC4 Messages from Megadrum based on the position of the Hihat?

Cheers,

Good morning

Onestly i don't remember the procedure of mapping on Superior Drummer.

In theory it is only necessary to mapping the note of hihat with the note of hihatB (bow) , after that with the control message cc#4 you are able to take any openings and closures in the library sound.
