1. Upgrade to the latest firmware version first.
2. You have to set DualHead to Yes.
3. You have to set HighLevel correctly on both the head and the rim provided they both are not too "hot". "Cool" them first if they're too "hot".
4. Once the above is done you have to adjust DualMidPoint to get correct separation between the head and the rim.

If you don't want to deal with two zones now and want to get good triggering on the head first, disable the rim by setting the Note to 0.

Thanks for your answer dmitri!

I have two questions concerning updating the firmware: I only have one midi-cable, meaning that I can either choose between in or output. Do I need two cables for installing the firmware? (as I don't get the data-transfer to run. It stops at 0 % and shows something like an "crc error" (if I remember the correct term)).
In your all-round pack that's supposed to cover everything, I can't find a firmware for my atmega 1284 32 input modul. There's only a version for Atmega 1284 with 56 inputs.

Thanks again for taking the time to help me solving my problem!

If you do it over the standard MIDI than you need two MIDI cables for communication in both directions. Why don't you do it over USB.

56 inputs version firmware supports any number of inputs between 18 and 56. It is configurable. See MaxInputs in the configuration documentation.

1. Because I don't have a midi-to-usb cable 2. I want to plug megadrum into my Juli@ soundcard (nice latency) which supports only midi.

Does that make sense to you? :)

But the firmware upgrade you can do over USB. Or am I missing something?

How do you power it up? All modules I build come with USB unless requested to build a module without USB.

My bad sorry!!! I forgot about the power-input. How come the data-transfer doesn't work then...It stops at 0 % and then shows me an error...

This is a bit too short description of the problem for me to say what is wrong.

I'm not on my own computer right now. I will post you the exact error later.

This how I do it:

Starting megadrum in boot-modus. First problem I have here, is that I can't change frequency from 16 mhz to 20. Somehow I don't find the "up" button you describe in your guidline. When I push the left button again Megadrum switches to something like "update firmware from pc". I then start the atmega 1248 56 input firmware, choose midi in and out-put and then press enter. The update-program then tries to transfer data but stops at 0 % showing me an error (rnc error or something like that, I will tell you what it says exactely later) and then over and over again tries to start the data transfer again without any success, though.

Hope you get what I'm trying to describe here. My English is a bit limited.
