Other things apart, I have no facilities to program protected bootloader, load firmware and test unsoldered ARM.

dear @dmitri,

in relationship to a new interesting detailed technical E-drum thread in German DrummerForum about measure latency times from different commercial modules at USB/midi-outputs, I have some more questions for the new ARM based board to you:

You measured at USB-outport a latency time around 1.196 mS (with minimal 1ms Latency (10) and 1ms MinScan (10) settings on an input). Did you measured this also at the physical Midi-outport? Are there difference latency times between USB and Midi output?

If you using the new Positional Sensing addon board do you get additional latency times to this?

1.196ms is a quite good result! Compare to this other (very expensive) commercial Modules like ROLAND TD-30 takes around 3-4ms latency on Midi/USB outport. For using those modules as drum to midi converter for playing VSTi drums in real-time this is unacceptable!

But a really important question should be: Do you know Mesh pads which are able to handle such "hot" settings for 1ms Latency (10) and 1ms MinScan (10) without losing good triggering results in dynamics and sensitivity?

Thank you very much with best regards

On the ARM board there is no difference between USB and MIDI in terms of when a signal is being sent - it is sent to both simultaneously but because USB is faster the signal takes less time to be transferred.

Not, it doesn't add additional latency but bear in mind that mesh type pads have lower frequency (longer periods, including first half wave) so they generally incur slightly longer latency.

Generally, the smaller a mesh pad is the shorter first half waves it produces but even the smallest mesh pad I have, Pintech 10", has ~1.5-2ms first half wave.

Hi All!

Good question Trommeltotti. I can just refer to a good drum feeling when playing on the ARM based version...which I believe could be related to fast USB/midi handling. I am more satisfied now compared to the ATMega based Megadrum. I would like to say there is a great window of opportunity for MegaDRUM. The TD-30 is only offering fixed sounds...and using it as trigger for iVSTs will add some important milliseconds. The 2Box device is offering you to download your favorite VST sounds...but don't support positional sensing...and probably also adds important milliseconds in midi handling. That's why the ARM-based MegaDRUM is one hell of a trigger device and a good choice. Fast, PS support and a great partner to all iVSTs! On the negative side...is the challenge to configure it...but things have become better!

Best Regards

Dear Dmitri,
I am completely new in drumming but I should like to built ARM based MegaDrum.
I searched a lot on internet but I could not find from where to download the board design.
Is there any possibility to have this design (Kicad) to be able to manufacture my own board or is only available like kit?
Thanks,

ARM based MegaDrum is only available in kits and modules.
