Question about megadrum keyboard

Postby operators123 » Wed Nov 27, 2013 7:36 pm

Are the buttons supposed to be of the normally closed, or normally open type? Because I used normally closed ones (ie they make a connection when I press the button, and I think these might be incorrect. The voltages between pins 6-8 of atmega are just under 1 volt when not pressing any buttons. The buttons also don't work.

Thanks.

Also if they are the wrong type, is there anything I can do other than buy new buttons??

The buttons should be normally open i.e. they make contact when pressed.
If yours are normally closed try keeping all four buttons pressed and switch on MegaDrum to see if it powers up O.K. if it does you will need to replace the switches

Right, looks like I need to buy some new switches then. I can't really tell if it boots up properly, because the contrast on the LCD is too low and I can't see anything (3V) so I need to use up/down to change it.

So just to confirm, the switches I should get are the ones where there is a connection between the two legs when you're pressing down?

EDIT: Right, I was just confused about what normally open actually is (silly me). Anyway the buttons should be working since the connectivity is correct, and they are actually normally open types. They have no functionality at the moment, so I'm assuming there's a problem with ATmega. I'm going to check for shorts on each pin, and i'll report back on any progress
