Question about roland VH-11 hi hat with megadrum

Hi all,

I've been playing with megadrum for the last few weeks, spending time tweaking it, but i have the feeling that my VH-11 hi hat isn't behaving like it should. Like something's wrong with the foot controller...
I'm joining the settings for the controller.

Basically, the output of the foot controller is very noisy, meaning that when i'm static the output is constantly changing on a scale of maybe 30 or 40 out of 127. As you can see, I've set the CC reduction lvl to 3 to try to counter that, but it doesn't change much. It makes it almost impossible to be subtle with the hi hat, I have to break it down to 2 states, one open one closed, otherwise it's just too unstable to use.
Also, i've downloaded angr77's settings (thanks for sharing), and I see that his low and high lvl for his VH-11 are like 40 - 400 wheras mine are 15 - 48 (yes, I set them myself as I should, and the foot controller doesn't deliver anything above 48, using angr77's settings would be pointless).
What do other users of vh-11 think ? Am I doing something wrong with the settings ? Or should I suppose that my VH-11 is actually faulty ? Any help appreciated !

Did you try the high impedance (with AltIn set to Yes) pedal input?

Hi.

I think you even could see in my library...that I have added a 15k resistor (in my MD) between the tip/ring for the pedal input to widen the gap between low an high value. Both VH-11 and the VH-12 have as default a very short gap when connected to MD.

Then I am using the high impedance switch for the pedal...and not settong the Alt In to true.

Then you should get your VH-11 going...and work fine!

I had already tried enabling altin, but the pedal was seen as always open regardless of if it was pressed or not.
I hadn't heard about the issue with the vh-11, i'll try the 15k resistance solution and keep you posted on the results.

But when you set AltIn to Yes, did you also toggle the pedal impedance switch into the right position?

I just realized when reading your post that I hadn't.
Just tried it again to check it out correctly, but I get even less gap between open and closed when set to high impedance. Is that normal ? I was expecting the opposite from what I read, as the vh-11 is supposed to be be high impedance...
I have yet to try the 15k resistance.

I've successfully added the 15k resistor for the hi hat, and now I get a low level of 45 and high level of 700 with the high impedance input, and the pedal is really smooth, it's great.
So thanks for the tip.

It leaves me wondering though, since I got two different behaviours wether I have the 15k resistor or not :
Without the resistor, using the high impedance input gets me less dynamic than the low.
Wheras with the resistor, i get more dynamic with the high impedance input.

What's the reason for this ? I have some basic knowledge in electronic and i'm curious to understand what's happening here, if you've got time to explain.
