Ideas for a hi hat controller

Postby tim » Sat Dec 21, 2013 12:40 am

Hi, i just ordered a megadrum 32 from dimitri and trying to find the rest of my kit. Im going to diy an a to e conversion. The snare, kick and toms will be done with piezos and a cone. Why is this cone shape so important? I keep seeing this.

I want a small kit, so just a crash and a ride. I will order the china and the splash from triggera for the time being. I will order the ride when it is available.

My biggest struggle thusfar is what to do for the hi-hat. I'm willing to pay the 350 euros for a vh-11 if that's just the better solution, but i'd rather diy or find something cheaper that also works and feels well.

I don't know if anyone has tried this yet, but it seemed like a good idea: the hall sensor hihat itself looks like a good idea, but it looks a but clunky with the taped cymbals, then don't look like they play well. Do you guys think it would be posible to use an triggera splash as the top cymbal and a rubber practice cymbal as the bottom with the hall sensor in between?

Any other suggestions for hi hats. I'm a beginning drummer and it's impossible to practice hihat techniques with a half baked solution :)

Looking forward to hear from you all, thanks in advance.

Put the hall sensor and magnet under the hi hat pedal - a lot easier and cleaner than fitting it between cymbals. You can use whatever cymbals you like.
If it ain't broken... fix it until it is.
