Happy New Year (Unhappy Megadrum :( )

Postby G-Man » Wed Jan 01, 2014 9:16 am

My main problem is this Image

I always get timeouts and I can't "send" all settings, it gets stuck on 96% and then timesout.

This errror is also happening when I send single pad settings.

Is there a "Factory Default" MDM config file I can load please? I am not making any progress.

1. Did you try to increase SysEx delay ?
2. Do you use the defaul 'MIDI Speed' which is 'USB+MIDI'?

Yes, I tried all the way from 10ms to 100ms in increments of 10ms.

I am not certain where to check that? Here is a screen grab of my settings. When I try with Midi Thru disabled I cannot connect to the Megadrum.
When I click rescan it selects Gervil, which used to work fine but now disconnects with sysex timeouts more frequently.

These are my main problems.

If I click on "send" by the pads dialogue box (i,e try to send one pad at a time) I get an immediate sysex timeout in red. If I click "get all" it works up to 100%, that seems fine.

If I click "Save to Slot" it gets to 87% and freezes, then I have to kill the MDM through windows task manager.

I have tried using both a powered hub (As suggested by Angr77) and a dual powered usb cable and it is exactly the same result.

Sorry Dmitri, I figured out about the speed you asked me to check.

Unfortunately my LCD only displays half of the characters so I can't see what is going on in the menus. I went to that menu and pressed down 3 times and then saved the settings by pressing left until it got to the copyright screen.

Now it seems to load data to and from the megadrum faster, but still fails at 87% on slot save and 96% on "send all".

Maybe I need to play with the midi latencies some more.

You really need to sort out you LCD problem first to avoid changing settings blindly. I also suggest to start with all settings at default, including 'MIDI Speed'. If the problem is still there with default settings, I'd suggest to try another USB port, cable or a PC. When I'm back, I'll try to re-produce your problem to see if I messed up with MDM.

Yes I agree, this LCD issue has been a real pain in the neck. I will play with it after work and see what I can do to try and fix it.

Hi!

Just a note - Why in heaven are you using the midi thru...? I can see that you are doing it first in MDM and also in the options menu. You must have special reasons for this...or...?

Think logically - If you only use one USB port to connect your MD with your computer(and no other midi devices)...then the midi thru is a real waste - and it will create problems.

(Midi thru is only if you are sending midi to your MD through the legacy midi ports...e.g. a keyboard connected to the MD...which then is connected to the computer over USB.)

I would deselect both checkboxes immediately.

Hi

When ever I try without it I can't connect to my megadrum. I will double check when I get home but that is always how it has connected. Thanks for the tip!

I think angr77 is referring to the 'enable midi thru' tick box as oposed to using the midi out.

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.

Hi!

What I meant was that:

1. I am supposing that you only have one MD and one computer connected to the USB port? (No external midi devices etc)

If true on this item above...midi thru checkboxes is completely unnecessary for both:
1. In MDM and the Misc panel. (Which will enable the MD to pass thru the midi signals it self. Example - connect a midi device through MD. Conclusion: Switch off! Do not enable this function.
2. In the option dialog in MDM for setting up the USB/midi ports. (Enabling this checkbox will enable MDM to pass midi signals through to other software applikations etc with great latency!) If you still want to receive midi drum data in to your drum application/DAW at the same time as you use MDM...please use MegaDRUM Port 2 instead in the Drum application/DAW. MegaDRUM Midi port 1 & 2 are equal! Conclusion: Switch off! Do not enable midi through.

If you still have problems to reach your MD from MDM...without this fantastic midi through combination....You have big, big problems with your setup!
