is anyone else have a problem with the kd9 pedal

Postby ddropski » Tue Sep 02, 2014 8:15 am

something weird...really weird in fact ... I used to think it was me and this will be hard to explain but it has to do with my kd9 pedal if im doing a right left right left pattern it misses beats I used to think it was me but I just had a friend that has been playing for almost 25 years come check it out and he is a double bass freak ...and he could not get it to work right either ,,, is there a known problem with the megadrum and the kd9 missing beats it will be like this

R = Right L=Left

rlrlrl rlrlrlrl lrlrlrlr lrlr lrlr lrlrl rl
when it us supposed to be
rlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrl

I have the threshold as low as possible with out triggering and it still does it ....I even tried it with drumstick hitting it at a steady rlrlrlrl and still it was missing a lot i get the same thing from bfd, superior, and addictive drums

I know im doing the pattern right (its just not triggering properly )
this kinda sucks ... its weird it even does it if i make the pattern slow...here is my config file (please note only the toms and kick/snare are set up

Are you sure you're doing that pattern right?

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.

yes I know im doing the patterm right its a simple right, left, right, left ect (think of the break down of Metallica master of puppets --the part where they sing master master ..wasted dreams ive been after) ..... it keeps cutting out and triggering loud hits even though im hitting them at a consistent velocity ..

I have tried every thing I could think of
high gain low threshold
low gain high threshold

retrigger zero retrigger 50

I even tried a stereo (guitar cable) instead of the trs .. still it mistriggers like crazy I took my beaters off of the pedals and im hitting it by hand so I know im hitting it right .....

I did replace the kd9 with my mesh pad and it all works... so im wondering do piezos wear out and go bad? or is it possably the foam is too thick and kills the hit going to the piezo ? its like as if the hit is not strong enough to reach through the foam to the piezo they register very low in the visual in mdm ... so then when I increase the gain it skips.(almost like a gallop) .and double triggers and is very inconsistent ... even if I set the retrigger at 50
this is my baseline config but i have changed everything 10000 times

I was planning on getting the krigg kick set from triggera but im afraid ill have the same problems

It's almost impossible to suggest anything for fixing "I've tried everything and it doesn't work".
Come up with a best possible definitive config you can find, post the screenshot of settings on the pad and describe the problem you have with THIS particular config.

Piezos are not infallible and do sometimes start to trigger unreliably instead of simply failing altogether. Occasionally, a connection on the piezo will get detached but still kind of stays in place due to glue or whatever protecting the solder joints, or from pressure from surrounding material, and continues to make (unreliable) contact, producing exactly the behaviour you describe. I've had this happen, where I'd checked the piezo for continuity (it did) and spent ages trying to dial the pad in before resorting to just replacing the piezo, instantly solving the problem. On close inspection of the old one I found what I describe above.
If it ain't broken... fix it until it is.

ill try all those things... i will try replacing the piezo and then ill make a solid config and hopfully we can sort this all out ... its just very frustrating and im running on little sleep ....I feel like my mega drum is acting like a leaky dam I fix 1 hole and another pops up ... but if I keep plugging ill eventually get it all working

you guys have been the best .. I appreciate all the help

yea actually im a dream theater fan I was using that as a song everyone knew to show what I was trying to do ( I actually hate metallica )

i just connected the kd9 to my roland td9 brain and it works flawlessly which means it is forsure a prob with the md and the kd9 working together ... probably a setting
so at least i have a place to start now

i checked powehell (anders) site but there is no kd9 file available im not even sure how i should start to sort this out ...does anyone here use a kd9 ?
