Positional sensing board : problem with Hi hat and rim snare

Postby drumdhiver » Mon Oct 20, 2014 7:44 pm

Hi all,

I add and connect a positional sensing board on my MD (all is build by Dimitri)
all is connect like it must be (Dimitri say it's ok)

(All worked fine before); Before try positional settings, I would try if all chanels work like before I plug it.

I have problem only with hihat and snare chanels.

When I hit HiHat, I have Hihat + rim snare. When I hit rim snare, I have rim snare+HiHat.

Any one had this problem?

1. Post screenshots of settings for HiHat and Snare
2. Post Raw MIDI Log screenshot showing hihat triggering when you hit snare rim.
3. Post Raw MIDI Log screenshot showing snare rim triggering when you hit hihat.

Ok,

In fact, when I play snare head, it play HiHat too, like you can see below,

Here, snare config with midilog, I hit snarehead and snare rim, these two one are follow by hihat notes (see 2nd picture)

Image

Here, Hihat config with midi log, I hit hihat bell/edge, these two one are follow by rim snare (but no head snare)

Thanks for replies

I replug input connector on the main board, all is allright like before. (if this precision could serve for investigation)

I replug positional sensiting board, problem re-appear

First, why is XTalk Level is set to 0 everywhere?

Second, I suspect that after installing the Positional sensing board you have not set HighLevels correctly.
Signal levels on input 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 will differ considerably when with and when without the Positional sensing board. This will greatly affect crosstalk.
To see if you set HighLevel correctly on all these inputs:
1. Set HighLevel to 64 on HiHat Head/Bow, HiHat Rim/Edge, Snare Head/Bow, Snare Rim/Edge.
2. Enable HighLevel Auto on HiHat Head/Bow, HiHat Rim/Edge, Snare Head/Bow, Snare Rim/Edge.
3. Hit hard a dozen times on each of hihat bow, hihat edge, snare head, snare rim.
4. Post screenshots of settings you got after that for both HiHat and Snare .

Here Hihat :

On head, highlevel auto didn't seem to change after level manually change to 64

Here snare.

You can see I try to use Xtalk... I never really feel change with this parameter, so I set Xtalk group 1 for head of HH level max, and Xtalk group 1 for snare rim level max (when there's interactions between 2 pads, they have to be in different group, or the same?)

It means that MegaDrum sees the switch on the edge input is always closed and as a result it thinks you always hit the edge. You have to lower Threshold on the edge input until you get separation between bow and edge zones. Or there is a short to ground on the edge input which makes MegaDrum to think that the switch as always closed.

Here snare.

HighLevels are a bit too low. Raise the Gain until you get HighLevel at least 300-400 and better yet if get it even higher but not higher than 900.

You can see I try to use Xtalk... I never really feel change with this parameter, so I set Xtalk group 1 for head of HH level max, and Xtalk group 1 for snare rim level max (when there's interactions between 2 pads, they have to be in different group, or the same?)

If there is crosstalk between two inputs then they must be placed in the same XTalk Group and XTalk Level should be adjusted to eliminate this crosstalk. Both head/bow and rim/edge zones of the same dual/triple zone pad MUST be in the same XTalk Group as well.

Ok, I will try it,

Did you remember, I have a Hihat Yamaha RHH130, some problem at the beginning,
Pedal sensor or pad have to get a reverse soldering connection... between tip and ground... oh..I remember it was for pedal sensor jack wire, I may do it for pad... should I have to do it?

I will try your advises tomorrow

Thank you Dimitri, and good night ;)

Do what? Reverse connection of the HiHat cymbal jack? Certainly NOT!

Hi Dimitri,

I test my pad with oscillo, no problem with piezo & switch it's correct,

I try to lower treshold, set 64, and I get 564 for high level.

I set 600 for each head/bow Hihat and snare... ... no more results...
It's really like if I hit rim snare simultaneously...

Do you think, it could be a little error on program inside these components? :(

------------
I edit my reply,

YES, there's something wrong, I test with my ohmeter, there's contact between tip of hihat/ring of snare !!! :

=> I took care to switch off megadrum before do it. All the rest of chanels are ok.
