changing to pot doesnt solve the problem, MD zone switching still not working.

Forget about the pedal for now - it has nothing to do with the zone detection on the cymbal. With the pedal set to foot controller, you can set up SD to take care of the pedal transitions and how they change the sound of each zone.

I set up my 3 zone cymbals like this (I do it all with the physical buttons on the module):

- Assign the note you want for each zone. I see you have that done already.

- The easiest part is setting up the Head/Bow zone where the piezo is: set highlevel, threshold, etc to your liking.

- Go to Rim/Edge -> Threshold. Squeeze the edge (making sure you're just squeezing the top switch, NOT the bottom one) and raise the Threshold number from 0 until you see the midi light flashing. It should flash once when you squeeze it and once again when you release it. There should be a range of (in my case 4-5) numbers where that happens - it could be a different range for you. Leave it at the middle; ie, if it flashes from 18 to 25, leave it at 22.

- In Rim/Edge -> BThreshold. Do the same procedure as above, and the number you leave should be a few lower than for the edge.

It should now trigger the three different zones. If you sometines get a bell note with an edge hit or vice versa, it's a matter of fine tuning those threshold numbers, but the right figure should not be far off the figures you get from doing the above.
If it ain't broken... fix it until it is.

I just lifted the rubber, it wasnt glued on, and there is a strip near the edge (none on the bottom) and a strip near the base of the bell.

I have tried squeezing edge strip and not registering.

Thank you

This strip is only 20mm wide in each case. Is it possible that these Goedrums cymbals are not compatible? What gets me is even if the 20k resistor was wrong, surely the other normal switch (prbably the bow) would be registering.

I stepped through the edge threshold one by one squeezing on and off for every value 0-127 for both sensors..nothing.

There is still the possibility that MD isnt wired properly as well. Dmitri? What of my questions earlier about the pedal jack, given my leads are good.

it makes sense that 3rd zone is the only one coming on (when edge threshold is above 0).

If the strips werent giving the right signal, the 3rd state of "no switch", which is 3rd zone/bell would result.

It also baffles me why the strips are so narrow, wouldnt this mean they are sensrs? I thought a switch needed to cover more area so that it is garaunteed to be hit.

Have you tested the switches with a multimeter? Is there continuity between ring and sleeve (measured on the cable) when you press them? Are you sure it's a stereo cable? If so, I can't really guess what might be wrong.

Also, that's the way those switches are, they sound normal. They're membrane switches and get activated when the rubber cover presses into them.

In Yamaha type 3 zone cymbals, the edge switch is connected over a 10k resistor and the bell switch is connected directly. Thus the edge Threshold MUST always be higher then 3rd zone Threshold (BThreshold). If not, then only the 3rd zone hits will be registered when you hit edge or bell. Read about BThreshold in relation to edge Threshold in http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings right at the bottom.

Note that in genuine Yamaha 3 way cymbals there is no separate choke switch - you choke by pressing the edge area where the edge hit switch is located ( or by pressing the bell switch area)
Normally, with Gain 4, Threshold on the Edge should be in the 20-30 range, and the 3rd zone Threshold (BThreshold) in the 0-5 range.

I suggest you to start with the 3rd zone Threshold (BThreshold) set to 0 and the edge Threshold set to ~40-50. Start lowering the edge Threshold by 1 at a time (make sure MDM and MegaDrum are always in sync, e.g. by enabling LiveUpdates) while pressing and releasing the edge hit switch (not the choke switch) and monitoring data in the MIDILog. There will be a point when you will reliably be getting Aftertouch On messages each time you press the switch and Aftertouch Off each time you release the switch. This is your Threshold for the edge.
After that you start raising 3rd zone Threshold (BThreshold) by 1 at a time while pressing and releasing the bell hit switch and monitoring data in the MIDILog. There will be a point when you will reliably be getting Aftertouch On messages each time you press the switch and Aftertouch Off each time you release the switch. This is your Threshold for the bell (3rd zone).

There is still the possibility that MD isnt wired properly as well. Dmitri?

Judging by what settings you were trying up till now I think this is very unlikely. You could test the cymbal in another input to verify this.

What of my questions earlier about the pedal jack, given my leads are good.

I'm not sure what to say. You can open up the case and check the continuity on the pedal jack. But again I doubt there is anything wrong with it.

just tested with multitester set to 200ohm, edge switch works (makes a beep on the multitester) when pressed, bell switch doesnt show a change in resistance when multimeter is at 2oo, 2000 or 20k. What should it be showing?

it seems to me that edge has no resistor, bell has 20k. Does this need to be swapped?

just tried what you suggested Dmitri and the edge switch doesnt trigger anything at all, squeezing from 50 down to 0. Note that above I say that it registers as closed on the multimeter when squeezed.

does this point to the resister being on the wrong switch in the Goedrum cymbal?
