As I explained above, in genuine Yamaha 3 zone cymbals the edge switch is connected over a 10k resistor and the bell switch is connected directly and so on the edge it should show ~10k and on the bell it should show zero. This is not the case in your cymbal. The bell switch might be broken or of different design/type.
it seems to me that edge has no resistor, bell has 20k. Does this need to be swapped?

If the bell switch is broke and you fix it so that when you press it it shows around ~20k resistance then swapping will allow to configure it as a Yamaha 3 way cymbal but edge notes will have to be set in the 3rd zone and the bell notes will have to be set in the edge zone. If the bell trigger is of a different type then you have to find exactly what type it is and then will see if and how it can be configured.

also can you please explain the function of the flip switch on the far right?

so just to clarify, if the bell switch wasnt broke but does have a 20k resistor on it, will MD handle it and adapt? Or will it confuse it or not register it

the two switches are the same construction and width, ribbons feed into a plug on a board with the resistor on it. Hence I could swap the ribbons before the resistor. What would be the outcome then? (provided the bell switch isnt broken)

bcslaam wrote:just tried what you suggested Dmitri and the edge switch doesnt trigger anything at all, squeezing from 50 down to 0. Note that above I say that it registers as closed on the multimeter when squeezed.

does this point to the resister being on the wrong switch in the Goedrum cymbal?

Did you do it with Gain 4 ? In you screenshot the edge Gain is 8. With Gain 8 you must start with much higher Threshold. Start with 127.

If it is not broken and does show ~20k when you press it then it will work, you will only need to swap edge/bell notes. And of course the edge input Threshold must always be higher then 3rd zone BThreshold regardless of which zone in your cymbal is with a resistor and which is not.

yes gain was at 4

your reply perhaps answered this, it might work yes? I will test now

4am in oz at the moment but I want to get this over with now

also it seems you are inferring that MD wouldnt adapt if the resister was the wrong way around, and that it will only work when the resistor is on the edge, correct?

well that produced nothing, i swapped the plug around so that resistor was connected to edge and nothing registered at gain 4 or 8 from 50 or 127 down to 0

i have confirmed that the bell switch is OK with multimeter.

I tried all combinations. Any suggestions on what to test next? Its now 5am for the 4th night now :( getting some sleep
