Help with Software choices...

I have a large acoustic set I just converted and installed triggers along with mesh heads. It's a 9 piece Tama with 15 cymbals; I've also converted the cymbals to electronic.

I have absolutely zero experience with computer software for drums and don't want to make the mistake of buying something that does not have the options I need. I want to have the proper sounds for a 10", 12", 14", 16" toms and 18", 20" floor toms, 2x-24" bass drums and a multitide of cymbals from 8" splash up to a 22" ride. I've noticed the BFD3 name as well as Addictive Drums 2. My plan is to find the right software, use the Megadrum module and play, play, play!!!

OR... would simply getting a drum module such as a TD20 give me more ease of use and option through midi instead of a software program? Really interested in your experienced folk giving me some insight here!

Any help or guidance would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance to all!!!

I've not seen anything with 6 toms. You can, of course, tune them down which may or may not be suitable. Again, 15 cymbals, I'm not sure you'de get all that in one package. Best of luck.

Addictive Drums 2 gives you 6 cymbals + 2 rides, 4 toms (sizes 10" to 18" with various depths - I suppose you could mess with the effects to get the sound of a 20"), and 3 extra custom slots (except cymbals). If you open 2 instances of AD, each with its own kit configuration, you can cover everything you've got, and if your computer can handle it, as many instances as you need. I suppose you could do that with any VST, but that's what I'm familiar with. That said, you'd need to invest in a few extra kit libraries because a basic install will definitely not cover your needs, regardless of the VST you go with.

You'd need two TD20s for all of that - not a small investment.

Just to add, The quality of sound available with VSTs these days goes way beyond the genetically modified offerings from a TD20.
