Addictive Drums w/ VH-12 sometimes missing hits while openin

Postby shuey79 » Wed Dec 30, 2015 3:18 pm

Hi, I recently bought AD 2 and so I'm trying to get the hihat to function good. Many thanks to angrr77 for his posts on his settings because I was able to use them to get pretty close to a good setup. My settings are not exactly the same as his to account for threshold. Also, he may be using a vh-11. In any case, the hat plays fine until the opening of them. During the opening I'll hit the hat and no noise will come from it. This only happens some times, other times I get the sound I want. Its almost like its being dropped. Once its fully open its fine.

Anyone have any suggestions?

What HiHat cymbal is it? If it is a Roland cymbal then you have not set it right because all Roland cymbals I know of are either dual piezo/switch or 3way piezo/switch/switch.

Its a roland VH12. What should I set mine to -- dual piezo/switch or 3way piezo/switch/switch?

If it is a dual zone cymbal then you have to set it as Dual piezo/switch. If it is a 3way cymbal then you have to set it as Roland 3way cymbal, see http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtop ... f=3&t=1968

Ok, that tells me how to configure the pedal. How should I configure the cymbal part of it?

My roland vh-12 only has 1 stereo input jack. Point 2 describes setting up a roland ride which has 2 stereo input jacks. Should I assume follow the steps for the first stereo input on the ride in point 2?

Edit:
To clarify, there is two inputs, one for the controller and the other for the cymbal. The cymbal part, the part that I'm interested in configuring, only has 1 input.

Seems like it is a dual zone piezo/switch cymbal so follow http://www.megadrum.info/content/settin ... one-cymbal but ignore everything about 3rd zone there.

First...I always get suspicious when people leaves the auto highlevel checkbox enabled in their screenshots...This should always be off unless you are performing a high level sequence.

Your edge input is configured as a piezo. This is wrong because the VH-12 is using a switch on the edge.

You have also a completly configured VH-12 in my library. (Not the VH-11) If you have problems with the pedal...I am wondering if you have installed a resistor between the tip ad ground(sleeve) for the pedal input. It is required to create a broader gap between the high/low levels on the pedal. Now, it is very tight if you look on your levels. The gap is about 200. A 15k ohm resistor will do the trick.

I would also turn on the cc reduction level...set it to 3.

Best regards

The posted picture of my hihat settings are of old settings. I'll try to get the new settings up to help this along.
As for the resistor, initially when I was troubleshooting I thought the same thing about the resistor but I'm coming from SD where it works fine. When I first got the VH-12 I did notice the narrow gap in the foot pedal but installed the resistor and that fixed it. I was happy with SD for a while but wanted to try out AD which is where we are now. Going back to SD the hihat works great but with different notes, obviously. I actually just think (perhaps you can tell me) that AD is just slow in recognizing the hits on the hihat as I'm opening and closing it.
