Switch inputs

Postby halifax30 » Thu Jan 07, 2016 3:24 pm

I have 2 Yamaha PCY135 and one PCY155 cymbal. My Rim/Edge input is configured as Type=Switch. What do the following settings influence in case of a Switch input? (The names come from MDM.)
  1. Pressroll Note
  2. Curve
  3. Compression
  4. LevelShift
  5. XTalk Level
  6. Gain
  7. MinScan
  8. PosLevel,PosHigh,PosLow
It seems that these are not used for Switch inputs, at all. Am I right? If not, please tell me what they do on a switch input.
Furthermore, there are other settings which I know are used, but I'm not entirely sure how they work.
  • How is HighLevel interpreted for a switch input? The switch obviously doesn't have a 'Level'. I know that for switch inputs the level is determined from the Piezo. But in this case it should have the same value as the HighLevel of the Piezo input, right? If not, why?
  • How do the retrigger suppression settings (Retrigger Mask,DynLevel,DynTime) work for a switch input?
Pearl Rhythm Pod converted to electronic with DIY foam cones and crossbar design. Using Drum-Tec mesh heads. 56-input MegaDrum with color LCD. Yamaha PCY135, PCY155, and some DIY cymbals. DIY Hall Sensor hihat pedal with PCY135 as top-hat.

All of the above do exactly the same as for piezo inputs.

  • PosLevel,PosHigh,PosLow

You're right, they don't and cannot do anything on switch inputs.

Furthermore, there are other settings which I know are used, but I'm not entirely sure how they work.

Wrong. Hitting the the switch (edge) zone on a dual(triple) zone pad/cymbal with the same force as hitting the piezo (bow) zone will produce different (usually lower) signal level from the piezo so on the switch input HighLevel must be set separately from HighLevel of the piezo input of the same dual zone piezo/switch pad/cymbal.

  • How do the retrigger suppression settings (Retrigger Mask,DynLevel,DynTime) work for a switch input?

  • Same as on a piezo input.
