Alesis 3 zone hihat configuration?

Postby CarpathianBreed » Wed Apr 13, 2016 8:51 am

I´m configuring a Alesis 14" cymbal as my hihat. I´m aiming for 3 zones, no choke.

The Alesis cymbal has two TRS outs, which I´ve set up as follows:

OUT A -> Hihat in MD - HiHatB to 3way, note 50-D3(bow) HiHatE to switch, note 51-D#3(Bell)
OUT B -> Snare in MD - SnareE switch, note 52-E3(edge)

I´ve got three notes out looking at MIDIOX and also got three notes when playing a soft synth.

When I set SnareE to PrgChange and squeeze the edge of the cymbal I get a reading of program change, but if I set HiHatE to PrgChange and try to close the switch I get nothing? So are Alesis cymbals Piezo/switch/Swith type after all? Or should I set HiHatE to piezo?

Also in this configuration I have on right now, every other hit reads as C -1. I have nothing else connected but the cymbal and my hihat-controller.

I will post out screenshots of my configuration when I get home from work but right now, could you advice me something that I should clearly change in my configuration?

Also, are HiHat controller states (open, semiopen..) necessary to map out? Or does, say a EZDrummer figure out the state of Hihat based on the notes given to each zone and the CC04 of the controller?

And are there any preferences how to set threshold, gain, minscan, retrigger mask and other parameters for switch inputs? Or is my current configuring all sideways?

Thanks again in advance to everyone!

I guess this cymbal is a Roland type 3way cymbal so you should set it likewise. But I'm not sure.

Alt Note?

If you use CC 04 then you need to set all open, semi-open and etc notes equal to the HiHat cymbal notes and let EZDrummer to figure out positions (if it is configured to do so).

Configure your HiHat cymbal as a Roland 3way cymbal and if there are problems show the settings screenshots and describe the problems.

Thanks Dmitri!

This is what I´m wondering. http://www.megadrum.info/content/settin ... one-cymbal I don´t get any information.

Alt Note?

Nope.

There´s a drum software that supports 10 stages of hihat between open and closed, so does this mean I´m only entitled to 5 stages using megadrum? Not that it really is a problem, but Just I can utilize every last bit of my setup.

Thanks!

Nope.

Show the settings and MIDI Log.

This CC 04 you can have up to 128 levels.

Roger.

Alt Note?

It just occured to me after typing the earlier message that I had all AltNotes on all inputs disabled. So I went on and set them matching the Master Note and I got rid of the C-1 altering.

This CC 04 you can have up to 128 levels.

That should be enough :)

I´ll go trying to sort out the rest of the configuration now to get more into the parameters themselves. If things don´t work out I´ll post the results here. Thanks once again!

I got everything working fine. I still have to play with the dynamics and pressroll times a bit to get the feel right but everything else on the 3 zone hihat is fine.

Thanks for the help!
