Rack mount Megadrum

Postby gastric » Wed May 14, 2008 1:34 am

I have an ancient S&S Industries e-drum set with some Pintech Visulite cymbals driven by an Alesis D4. I'm actually out of inputs on the D4, plus I hate the silly 2-button hi-hat controller. Megadrum would seem to fit my needs of more inputs and variable HH controller support. Additionally it'd be a fun project as I like to build things, though usually mechanical. My electronics experience has been soldering a few microswitches to my paintball controller boards. I'd go for the 32 input super duper Mega Drum with all the options.

Anyway, a huge requirement for me is that all of my my musical gear be rackmount as I like things tidy and it helps hide the nasty mess of wires. Where do I come up with some compatible 1U-2U rack mount chassis for this project?

I've received a few PMs about rack-mount enclosures and thought I'd post the seemingly viable sources I've found in the US thus far. Note that NONE of them are "cheap". I haven't explored this possibility yet but it might be cheaper to find some broken racked piece of equipment and buy it just for the enclosure. I'm always looking for the cheapest way out as that hunt is part of the fun for me. ;)

Note I'm still building my acoustic-to-electronic drum set and working with an ancient Alesis D4 and soon-to-arrive Trigger IO for testing the triggers before I adventure into MegaDrum land. I opted for a retail module so I can theoretically rely on it to function 100% while ironing out the physical trigger construction/implementation issues. Figured the less variables the better and take baby steps on the overall process. Once the drums themselves have proven to be solid I can venture to the MegaDrum and work out any issues with that without having to scratch my head if it's the triggers/cables/etc. VS the MegaDrum.
