Hi all, after getting things pretty much sorted on my Megadrum with Superior Drummer, I decided to splash out on Native Instruments "Studio Drummer" and "Abbey Road Drums".
Naturally, the Hi-Hat is the pad/pedal most tricky to setup with any VST Drum software and I'm finding on the Native Instruments stuff that this is especially true.
I can't for the life of me get the "Tight Closed" sound nor can I get a Hi-hat splash sound.
In Superior Drummer I notice the only way I can get the "Tight Closed" sound is by using the "Learn" function on the "Hihats Tip Trig" setting with the Hi-hat fully open. After this process, a fully closed pedal and bow strike gives me the "Tight Closed" sound.
There is no such "Learn" luxury function on the NI stuff and so having the Hi-hat pedal configured perfectly off the bat is the only way to sort this I guess.
I'm unsure why this "learn" step is even needed in Superior Drummer to get the "tight closed" sound as my pedal is sending the correct CC4 value of 127 when fully closed. In any case, it's the only way I can get the tight sounds.
As far as the Hi-hat splash goes, I'm unsure why I can't seem to trigger this with CC4 messages. I'm guessing NI don't handle CC4 messages as elegantly as Toontrack and thats why it doesnt work? I have read a bit on various forums that seems to suggest this.
If I set my Hihat pedal to "Pot" type I can get the splash sound working although I then sacrifice a lot of other Hi-hat functionality.
Wondering whether or not anyone has come accross these problems with the NI software with Megadrum?
Cheers,
Toby
