CC to change MIDI Notes

Postby alexmcintosh » Fri May 20, 2016 4:39 am

Is there a way to have the CC's change the associated Midi Note to discrete Midi notes? (quantum notes). E.G. Using the CC's from my Cymbal it'd be great to convert those to 3 discrete Midi Notes, so that Superior Drummer 2 (SD2) is able to use them; since there are only a couple of Snare drums that will use the CC info, and the hi-hat pedal, that works with it.

Since there are a great number of inputs that can send out CC info, this would open a great world for drum VST's for the Megadrum. Any help would be awesome!!

I'm not sure I understand what you want MegaDrum to do and what you want to achieve.

Dmitri (thanks for the reply);
I was hoping that I could take the CC's and their associated midi note and make three discrete notes.
For example: the snare drum.. I assigned my snare drum output to be positional sensing, therefore it sends out a CC value with each snare drum midi note. But there is only a couple of snare drums in my VST (I'm using toontracks Superior Drummer 2) that can use this. But my VST has many snare dums that have three zones (discrete). If I can have my midi output become 3 discrete notes instead of one note and associated CC value, this would give more access. Same thing with many other Toms and cymbals. It would turn all of my drums and cymbals into 2,3,4 zones which would be extraordinary.

Sincerely;
Alex

So what are the 4 samples attached to the 4 midi notes, rim click, rim shot?

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.

Have you tried configuring the 3rd zone on your pads?

E.g. I'm currently using these notes on my dual piezo snare:

Head: 6 (with positional sensing)
Pressroll: 39 (timeout 20)
Rim: 37 (Cross stick)
3rd zone: 40 (Rim shot) [MidPoint Width 7, Threshold 55]

That's 5 articulations from one pad, when you count the Centre and Edge samples enabled by positional sensing.

Well my notes are selected to work with Toontrack's default mapping across EZD2 and SD2. 39 is Ruffs, I imagine it's different in other VSTs. :P

Ruffs smooth out the buzz roll nicely I find, the downside is; it can become like an autopilot at higher timeouts, which is why you only want a few ruffs to trigger. It's still an awesome feature to have on Megadrum. But, 90% of the hits registered in my buzz roll are still from normal, single hits.

It is really funny to set the timeout to 200 though, drop one stick on the pad to play a perfect roll ;)

Oh I see, I just use it as a second note on cymbals. I can't get my head and concience around the ruff/roll thing.

Kabonfaiba;
Thank you. You've pointed out, a fundamental lapse in my Megadrum settings. I've tried playing with the third zones, but not getting very good results. Can you point me to a good setup info for this (2 piezo pad). I just can't make much from the Megadrum setup page.

Sincerely;
Alex

Maybe someone can help me? Here's a screenshot of my settings. The results I'm getting is: Rim/Edge (Note 37) is being triggered on edge, not in the middle, but shows up again for center (Head shot). The center Head shot is sporadic, I'll get everything: 3rd Zone, Head, Rim, Pressroll.?? I'm not able to tame the settings.

I expect that a Rim Hit, would trigger the RIM value, a Center Hit would trigger the Head value. A middle hit (1/2 between center & edge) would trigger a 3rd Zone Note, and a fast drum roll would trigger the PressRoll Note. (That's not what I'm getting)
Any help super appreciated.
