Need help set up a constant variable hihat in Superior 2.0

Postby bladelawless » Mon Dec 26, 2016 11:59 pm

The hi hat note options, ie., closed tip, open bell, chick, etc., etc., don't exactly match up in the hi hat notes tab in MDM. Has anyone else set up a constant variable controller hi hat controller in Superior Drummer 2.0? I would like to know what notes you have assigned.

Don´t use the specific articulations (open 0-5) in SD, just adress hatsTipTrig and let SD do the assignment via hatsCtrl (CC4).

did that. doesn't sound like I am getting any variable pedal though, almost sounds like an on/off switch

connect your pedal to input 2,and assign under HiHat Pedal section of MDM as Type>FootContr, and HiHat Input 2

First make sure your hi hat controller is sending the proper pedal messages in the Log window in MDM. You should see the bar graph show a smooth (or fairly smooth) transition between open and closed. This can be adjusted with the CC Reduction Lvl in the Hi Hat Pedal section.

Do not assign any hi hat notes in the Hi Hat Pedal in the "notes" or "levels" tab. They should read zero.

The Pads section should display HiHatB and HiHatE; here you will assign the notes 18 and 20 respectively.

tried that, didn't work well. could be because you are using Roland hi hat controller? I use Pintech RYC HHC. hi hats are dual zone.

These Pedal Notes should be set equal to the Notes of the HiHat. They should not be set to zero.

What exactly did not work well? The HiHat bar doesn't move smoothly up and down or what?

hi hat bar moves the same no matter where I set the CC Reduction Lvl, still sounds like an on/off switch, no partially open/closed sounds, it just gives either open or closed hi hat sounds

What does "the same" mean ? Does the bar move up and down following how much you you press the pedal? Or does it jump between fully open and fully closed no matter how slow you press/release the pedal?

I'll need to double check my settings... Assigning the notes can be weird with SD2.

My first question should have been; what pedal controller are you using and what hi hats are you using?
