newbie having trouble calibrating

Postby marcusHere » Sun Jan 15, 2017 1:13 pm

I've just bought megadrum. I've got superior drummer and ASIO4ALL installed. Installed Megadrum Manager. Watched this youtube video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6crpT1jfeS0
But it seems that most of the info is redundant now as the later software is setting things automatically.
Anyway it gave me an undersding of how threshold works.
So here's what happens with me. Not sure if it's a faulty megadrum or my faulty understanding.
Generally the midi mappings seem ok. I get kick, hi-hat open and closed, crash, ride, snare and both toms.
Started with the kick. - Sounds quite low volume. When I kick it hard I get false trigger from both ride and hi-hat. When I set the threshold higher on the ride to try to eliminate the false trigger, it didn't work even on maximum threshold and I noticed that is was setting the threshold of all the other pads to the same value.
Thanks for being here. I hope you can help get me up and running.

You stil need to run through setting the thresholds and high level for your particular drums.

Is your kick at low volume or are you triggering a low velocity?

Post a screenshot of MDM.

I'm getting an error when I start it now, about not being able to set MIDI out. Should the midi in and the midi out both be set for usb midi ? ( I'm just connecting to a laptop with a USB cable. ) Although I'm getting an error message telling me it couldn't set USB out, I'm still getting sounds ok but I don't know why this message has started appearing when it wasnt there before and I want to understand better what is going on.

Make sure no other software but MDM accesses MIDI ports which you configured MDM to use for MIDI In/Out.

Ok. I've solved the midi out problem by running superior drummer solo, instead of involving reaper. I've also solved the problem of thresholds being set on every pad simultaneously. It was me clicking the wrong button in ignorance. So the false triggering is gone now. The next thing I don't understand is how to assign notes to pads because some of my pads arent being assigned notes, for example, my hi-hat edge is not being recognised when I try to set the high level.

Generally speaking if you have the blue lettering in MDM then its not in sync with MD.
Try taking a methodical approach to all this. If you are hitting your HH edge and not getting a response then look in the midi log to see if you're plugged in to the wrong socket.

All the sockets are correctly plugged in.

ahhh. I see now. It's showing 42 and 51. So I set the thresholds ok and stopped some retriggering with the gate value. Can't seem to get the hi-hat rim high value to set though, and when I wack it it wont go to the top of the midilog. I can only get it to go up about a quarter of the way.

Rim=edge?
Good practice to untick high level when done.
