Looks like the diameter of the shell is slightly too small and the hoop goes down too low. Still, I don't see why you should have problems triggering the rim - you'd be hitting the shell rim instead of the hoop, though on second thoughts I don't think that will be very good for the mesh head.

I bought cheap toms from Thomann and cut them in half, it works out really cheap. I later covered the shells with imitation wood vinyl and they look great. I wouldn't get 8" ones though, I did that and a few years later went and bought some 10" ones because I didn't like them being so small. Ideally I'd like a 12" for the snare and floor tom and keep the 10" for the rack toms, but I can't be bothered...
If it ain't broken... fix it until it is.

I just wanted to mention the problems one might encounter with the handdrums... and give suggestion on what can be used and found cheap.

the original skin (right word?) of the handdrum was not like normal drum skins.

hm... I wonder If I will be happy with 8"... probably will make my drumming more precise?

btw. yes I have the meshheads really tight.

Just a short info:

I am not sure... but it might be that using the handdrums for building meshpads like I suggested before is not such a good idea and could create issues with triggering...

The reason for that might be that the mesh heads do not fit well onto the handdrum since the rim is quite a bit thicker. Also the Tuners are quite weak and a pain in the xx... for tuning...

1) You can probably get some very inexpensive new Toms or source some old Toms on ebay and cut them in half > this might be only so slightly more expensive than the handdrums I suggested earlier.

2) You have already one mounting bracket.

3) most importantly...The Mesh will fit perfectly and you can properly tune them.
