hihat poor response

Postby marcusHere » Tue Mar 28, 2017 2:40 pm

I'm as confused as hell by the hihat config. It's the last leg of my kit config. Everything else is ok now.
I don't understand what the settings are for, so I've been stabbing in the dark and experimenting.
I've noticed that as I raise my foot I don't start to get a loose cymbal sound until it's around 40 or so in the midi log. So this is why it's not responding when I lift my foot slightly during playing. I need to increase the 'pedal sensitivity'. Any help greatly appreciated. I'm using a GoEdrum hihat controller ( like a poor man's VH-11 ).

What software are you using for playing samples? I'm using BFD3 with a variable hihat so there's no need for MD's hihat openness levels. Just wondering why you have both open and closed at zero - not that it matters with a variable hihat.

I'm using Addictive drums 2. I've left open and closed at 0 because the settings didn't seem to affect anything. I really don't understand how to set them. They settings I've got are sort of ok, until I start playing and then I discover that the pedal doesn't respond enough when I raise my foot like with an acoustic high hat. I practice at home on the electric and then play with a band on an acoustic so I'm trying to get both kits to have similar feel and drums/cymbals in the same places. It's quite close now but as it is the hihat is awful.

I'm guessing you're using MIDI CC for pedal positions. In that case it doesn't mater what levels you have for open/closed/semiopen and etc - you just have to make sure that all Notes in the pedal configuration for all the positions are the same and equal to the Notes of the HiHat cymbal. At which level of openness which sound is played can be done in either Addictive Drums (don't know how) or by adjusting HiHat pedal's Curve in MegaDrum.

Thanks. Found the hihat adjustments in Addictive drums and it's a lot better now.
