Switch for Choke on a Crash Cymbal

Postby sbonasuk » Fri Apr 28, 2017 7:14 pm

I have configured the crash to give me a choke works fine, however I'm sure I read that someone had made a switch that had no moving parts just an isolated strip of metal using only the inductive current of fingertips, if this true what settings in MDM and AD2 are needed to be set to pick up what is really only a minute current.

That might have been me. Set the edge as switch and play with threshold until touching it activates it - nothing more to it really.
If it ain't broken... fix it until it is.

I wouldn't think so - I tried with guitar strings first and later used a kind of steel mesh cut out from an old frying pan cover.

He he... I had to google who that was.

I also remember that for some reason, edge hits would sometimes actually trigger the edge - in theory impossible as no switch gets closed and you're hitting it with a wood stick. The solution was to set the same note and high level for edge and bow so it didn't matter what zone was triggered, you always got a crash sound.

Congratulations, you have won 'airflamesred's post of the month' award. Three different languages on show and the word 'ubiquitous'. For all you young pretenders out there, that's is how it's done.

ps The Aperitif was of course the mention of the Spaniard Heath Robinson!

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.
