Not able to utilize all inputs?

Postby autumnsheart666 » Sat May 27, 2017 7:01 pm

Okay, so now that I have found ample time to get my stuff set up, I am past the old posts where I could not figure out how to get megadrum working with Superior drummer, ect. I now have a new issue...

While I am able to get most of the kit working, it seem that there is no way to utilize 56 inputs... I can get up to 14 devices connected and they trigger just fine with Superior drummer. But I have somehow run out of usable inputs. I am pretty sure that I am missing something here...

For starters, I have a 10 piece Pearl E-pro, which uses Tru-Track heads. And I have about 10 E-Cymbals. Some are single zone, some are duel zone. Lets make it simple...
Example: My duel zone ride, I can only get single zone to work. I have tried to use the "rim/edge" area, and have tried to change settings as shown in documentation on here.
Not a huge deal... But that's issue number 1.

Issue number 2. is that it seems because of the input order, when you go past used name slots you basically get "20/21" then "22/23"
So... If we go to say... "55/56" just as an example, where the hell are the other inputs? Its as if I am stuck at "26/27" essentially leaving me only able to utilize 14 individual devices...
Does this make sense? Like if you count the inputs on the back there's like only 29 actual cable inputs. I have to be missing something, or some setting here... I did set to 56 inputs in the
MD Manager, so what am I missing?

The 56 inputs module has 29 jacks: 1 for HiHat pedal, 1 for Kick and 27 stereo jacks which you can use with up to 27 dual/3way pads/cymbals or with up to 54 single zone pads/cymbals using Y-splitter cables or any mixture of single/dual/3way pads/cymbals between 27 and 54.

Thank you for your reply, sadly I am sort of new to the MIDI world as it pertains to breakout equipment, so forgive my ignorance. But can you perhaps explain briefly how I would achieve this using duel zone, and then also single zones with y splitters? I just have no idea how to make it work in the MD manager settings :/

Don't worry about it, just plug your drums in. Dual zones use adjacent inputs (on MDM) snd single zones just use the left.

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.

When connecting a dual zone pad you just connect it to a jack with a stereo cable.
To connect two single zone pads to the same jack you connect a Y-splitter cable first into the jack on the module and then connect each of the split ends of the Y-splitter cable to each pad.

The other issue is duel zone, I have a Pearl E-cymbal, it had a 2 input trigger box, so I put it into the dedicated Ride input, I can get sound on the "bow" area, but not the "rim/edge" area. I know the zones work because if I put it into my Pearl red box module all zones work. Any advice?

Is it a dual zone cymbal with separate jacks for each zone? Very weird, all dual zone pads/cymbals I know use one stereo jack with a head/bow zone on a tip and a rim/edge zone on a ring of the stereo jacks. If it is indeed with separate jacks for each zone then you need to join them with a Y-splitter cable and plug it into any of the stereo jacks of the module.

Ah! So that's what it is? It has a trigger box, with two separate inputs for each zone, yes. I was using two inputs on the MDM and both on the cymbal itself. I thought I would be able to plug into that other input and configure the sound. So my biggest enemy is just needing to get y splitters? Then whats the point in having the extra inputs on the MDM if they are essentially useless?

I don't quite understand what you mean. MDM shows as many inputs as MegaDrum has (or as many as MegaDrum is limit to by MaxInputs setting). You don't have to use all of them.

Well, I should not have said "useless" I just don't understand why I need y splitters to utilize the other ports, but the good news is... Now that I know I will need y splitters I now understand how to get my stuff to work properly. One last question on this... Can you go with a y into say "20/21" both inputs, out to a single input drum that has more than one zone?
