Do triggers and pads make a difference in performance?

Hello , just wanted to know...

I´m really tempted to get a megadrum module (cause of its great latency performance and possibilities) but I have own a Yamaha DTX502 drumset.

I would replace my actual drum module with a megadrum one , but my question is: Do yamaha ( or any other brand pads , triggers or piezos) affect the latency performance? I mean... Are there better triggers or pads to get out the most of the megadrum module?

Is the performance directly affected by the brand or kind of triggers you are using? or it really depends on the module entirely?

Exactly... thats the point.

I dont know if its "ok" to stay with the yamaha rubber pads or to move to another kind of pads with a better response.

What would you suggest to me?

In theory rubber pads would allow you to get lower latency (maybe a couple of milliseconds) as they can use a lower scan time in the module. Whether you prefer rubber or mesh pads for the feel is up to you. Most of the latency, however, is going to depend on the computer and sound card you use.

I´ve heared that latency comes also from the module but I was not sure if that has to be with audio and not to MIDI.

I´ll be using an RME PCIe card and Core i7 8700.

But Im not sure if its better to have a faster CPU (7700K for example) or One with more cores like the 8700.

Almost any pad will work - I'd choose them based on what you prefer playing with.

Yes, latency differs among modules but Megadrum is among the fastest out there, so I wouldn't worry about that.

That audio card and PC setup will work great. I don't think you need a particularly fast CPU or one with loads of cores for low latency - a good sound card is more important.

As earlier posted by ignotus, megadrum latency is minimal, the power of the PC is also not really an issue, however the sound card makes a huge difference. for example I changed to an external SCARLETT SOLO audio unit from focusrite and I get 0.7 second latency.

As for rubber pads, move to a mesh head

Rubber vs mesh is up to you its a feel thing. PC specs don't really have e to much influence unless you really try to stream thousands of samples simultaneously, difficult on a drum kit.
