Firmware update issue

I think if Lock bits are incorrectly set you may have one only option now to build ISP cable - http://www.megadrum.info/img/isp.png - and program your Atmega with avrdude: http://www.megadrum.info/faqs.php#Firmware.

my pc doesn't have a printer port nor does this laptop.

No, all ICs are programmed and tested ...

Try this:
1. Power up with the Left key pressed.
2. When prompted, press the Down key.
3. Do NOT send any Sysex but just power MegaDrum off.
4. Power MegaDrum on normally, i.e. without pressing any keys.

What do you see after that?
If you see MegaDrum boots normally, than the Lock bits are set incorrectly.
If you see black squares or it gets into Firmware Updater, than Lock bits are ok and you can try to upload a new firmware again.
