Yamaha RHH-135 hi-hat settings

Can you a make a video showing the VU meter going crazy when you hit any other pads?

(About 20s on the video I move the hi-hat pedal up and down to show that it is working, but do not reach fully open anymore, after that I hit one pad to show how the VU behaves).

I noticed that:
1) After connecting the other pads the VU meter no longer appears fully open (as can be seen on video).
2) Hitting any pad causes the VU to oscillate, and if I start Addictive Drums I can actually hear the hihat making some chicks noise

My config:

1 dual trigger Roland-like for snare (internal - side mounted) - highlvl about 604..
4 single zones for toms and kick (internal - side mounted) - highlvl about 540..
1 pcy 135
1 pcy 155
1 rhh135

1. If you don't get fully open HiHat then HighLevel is set to high. Set it lower so that it is reliably detected fully open when the pedal is fully open.
2. Setting the pedal curve to Exp1Custom6 makes it very sensitive to slightest changes in the pedal signal level near the open position. Set the Pedal Curve to Linear for now.

Ok, its a lot more stable now.
What I cant get right is the smoothness of the pedal.

It is set now to Highlvl 850 Lowlvl 550

[*] If the Lowlvl goes down, it makes impossible to close, it goes up, near the highlvl, it just jumps from closed to open, with no steps.
[*] CC reduction on all three levels doesn't seem to interfere
[*] New Algorithm doesn't seem to interfere

In the range 850 - 550 I`m experiencing two unpleasant things:

1) when closing the hihat it makes double even triple notes (chicks)
2) when opening the hihat it makes one brief step to the middle then straight to open

What could it be?

Please take a video showing the LCD while you press the pedal very slowly from fully open to fully closed and then releasing it very slowly from fully closed to fully open. The LCD shows actual signal level of the HiHat pedal which I will be able to see.

Note:
1) I was closing and opening really slow, but the meter just jumps to the bottom/top.
2) sometimes it does not close completely, and I have to apply force

This HiHat is not fully variable so you will not get totally smooth transition from open to close. Judging by the level readings it has 5 steps with signal readings ~512, ~557, ~632, ~785, ~850.

1. Set LowLevel to 535
2. Set HighLevel to 825
3. Set Curve to Linear
4. CC Reduction Level to 3
5. Set LongChickThreshold to 16
6. Set ChickThreshold to 100

You may also need to adjust the HiHat mechanically according to the Yamaha RHH135 manual and your playing preferences for open/close range.

Ok, the switch is set to high impedance, so i disabled the Alt Input now.

If AltIn is disabled the impedance switch must be set in Low impedance position (switch is Up).

Very nice Dmitri, thanks for the help and patience. I've set the levels you suggested and it's better.

The RHH135 inst continuous as you said, so it has this 'steps' that makes articulations more difficult. I'm trying to go around this with the settings of opening and closing on AD2.

Two things I still have to get right is the double chicks when I step and the VU meter going down (now much less, using your recommendations).

About the chicks, I've tried the chick sensitivity on AD2, and it helped a bit, but it's inconsistent.

I think I know why you get two Chick sounds - one is triggered by AD from CC 04 messages and another is triggered by MegaDrum. If you use chicks generated by AD from CC 04 messages then set Chick and Splash Notes in Pedal settings to a Note which does not trigger any sound in AD.
