Failed Firmware Update MegaDrum 56

My MegaDrum looks like this one but with bigger LCD screen. Built by dimitri (looks good inside!)


What happened:

1. Downloaded new version of MDM and latest firmware 31st? Oct 2018.
2. Started MDM
3. Plugged in MegaDrum, red LED on MegaDrum came on like normal and it connected to MDM.
4. Menu popped up about updating to latest firmware. Closed it.
5. Hit a few drums but nothing showing in MIDI.
6. Went to do Firmware Update
7. Selected STM32d as MDM showed MegaDrum as STM32F205RCT6
8. It started and then stopped, saying couldn't find MegaDrum or something.
9. MegaDrum screen showed two lines saying start fwupdate or similar.
10. Clicked start on Firmware flash again.
11. Firmware flash completion progress didn't increment for ~1 hour.
12. MegaDrum screen still showed the same message.
13. I powered off MegaDrum
14. I tried powering on MegaDrum but red LED didn't light up.
15. Tried off/on, different laptops, different USB cable, no change.
16. Tried on whilst pressing each black button, no change.
17. Took cover off MegaDrum, verified getting 5V and 0V at the PCB end of the USB socket.
18. Verified the toggle switch on front is correctly closing circuit when toggled.

Stumped. I feel like maybe during this process the initial firmware has been wiped and I need to load a bootloader or something?

Please follow viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1252 to the letter - it always work.
LEFT button is combined with the left rotary encoder - press it while powering on.

Thanks Dmitri.

It powered up with left rotary pressed and showed the update messages per that post.
Then whilst the update stayed at 0% the LCD went all white.
Been like this for 30 minutes.

Firmware size is 120432 bytes
Transferring.. - 0% done.

Trying again whilst holding left button during entire update worked. Maybe I misread instructions.
Have full white LCD screen now, however MegaDrum is picked up by MDM.

So I have been playing the kit with just using MDM to adjust things but realise for VH-11 hat and 3 way Roland ride I need to use the physical controls.

The LCD is still white and adjusting contrast up or down in MDM or via the up/down small black physical buttons the screen does change to black/white. However I still can't see any text.

I've had a read through the FAQ and on posts here but can't find an answer. Please help

Have done update to latest firmware following instructions (press & hold left rotary, etc). Same result.

If the LCD used to work ok and it now doesn't then I can only suspect two things:
1. The LCD wiring got loose.
2. The LCD failed.

I'd suggest you to open the module and check the LCD wiring.

Thanks Dmitri, wiring looks very solid. Unplugged and plugged in but no difference.
I'll try source replacement LCD. Cheers.

It was the LCD, got replacement off eBay. Thanks for PM too.
