The LCD has 16 pins. Is the first one considered to be ground?
To clarify, are all 16 pins connected to the LCD or is one connected to a separate "ground"?

Also, do I locate 1 - 16 from left to right on the ribbon cable?

It is not considered, it is a specification of H44780 LCDs to connect pin 1 to ground.

Nothing separate, nothing hidden, everything is in the schematics.

Doesn't matter as long as you connect 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3 and so on.

I got it now.

I made another error in attaching the USB socket to the the main board. In hind sight I should have extended it.

Is it possible to undo the solder connection?

After this, I have only ONE MORE question.

Let me pose my last question regarding assembly:
I have read the schematic for Synthex's All In One PCB.

I am still unclear about how to connect "ground" to the actual jacks. From this post I can see that ground should be connected to all jacks.

In Dmitri's builds, I see a wire across the sleeves of all the jacks. Can you please tell me what that is? Copper?
Where does the wire end?
