Jumper

Postby Fulano » Sat Oct 18, 2008 6:03 pm

Hi,

I bought the kit from Synthex. I have all the components soldered, and I have to wire the jacks. But I have two doubts.

1. Do I need to use the jumper? and what is it for?
2. I bought female jacks with open and close circuit. What are the advantages of using the open / close circuit with megadrum? and how should I wire the different connections to use this characteristic?

Thanks

The jumper is from power : USB or External power.
Do NOT use jumper "USB Power Switch" and "Alim Ext Jumper" at the same time.

With switched jack (open/close circuit) inputs can be connected to ground if there is no jack.

It depends on your jacks.

I'm connecting a switch to the USB power switch, so I can turn the module on and off. In this case, I don't need to use the jumper. If I wanted to use Alim Ext I should put the jumper in Alim Ext Jumper. Is it right?

It depends on your jacks.

The female jacks have six pins each. Tip - Ring - Sleeve and the corresponding pins for the switches. When the jack isn't used the circuit is closed, and it is open when a male jack is plugged. I have read in other thread that using this characteristic we can avoid parasites. But, is it worth using it? and how should I do all the wiring? connecting the pins to the ground?

Yes. If you wanted to use Alim Ext you should put the switch in Alim Ext Jumper.

Yes, you have to connect the pins to the ground.
