Megadrum progress hangup.

Postby jamalpiper » Tue Oct 21, 2008 12:01 am

Well I recieved half the parts lastweek for my mega drum, and I'm trying to etch my pcb, but here in california it seems nearly impossible to buy any locally. Fry's doesn't carry it, all the radioshacks around don't have it stocked. Does anyone know a place where I could buy etchant here? Perhaps there is another type of store that sells it for another purpose. I'm hesitant to buy online because I read there is a special hazardous material charge (or something) which at the store I was looking at made it about +$30 for a small bottle. Any help is appreciated.

You could make your own from hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide. Check out instructables.com and search for "etchant". I whipped up a batch a while ago to do a couple of small boards and it worked really well. Just be careful of the fumes when mixing and try not to get the acid on your skin.
