Have you installed the java 1.6 runtime from the java.sun.com web? Maybe vista comes with another preinstalled version. I have made other applications with the same GUI builder and they look exactly the same on XP and Vista. I will see if I can find a Vista to test it myself, but it is very strange...

For the firmware update:

The first time you run the app, did you get a message box saying that a DLL library has been installed to a certain path for enabling the firmware update? If not, maybe the app found problemas with permissions writing the MidiPort.dll file to the java.library.path. If you search for the file MidiPort.dll and you don't find it, then that is the reason you get the Error. Here I attach a zip file containing that DLL file. You can copy it to C:\Windows\system32 and then the app should recognize it as well. WHen you have the MidiPort.dll accessible for the app, then open the app with megadrum connected before. Select Firmware->Update firmware and when an instruction box appears, disconnected megadrum and connect again but with Left key pressed so you enter the bootloader. Follow instructions on the message box.

A quick note about the input names. Input names are written with the firmware, they can not be passed through sysex. So the only way to change them is doing a firmware update.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

- I was connected under XP and with SB Live with the original Midi-Cable.
I did what You wrote, but didn't work.
After I connected via USB, and tried again it worked, names are changed.
( Is there a possiblity to change the names in the menu, corresponding to the changed names from the 'input conversion table'. number the Inputs (stay's the same, name according to table))

elrules wrote:There are still a few things to be done. I think this afternoon I can finish them all. They are:
- Create a good logotype based in the "official" logo. (hope someone can do this for me)
- Write a short but usefull manual.
- Enumerate features in the version history
- Add an window when you close the app, asking if you want to save current settings. Clicking yes will write current config to a default.syx file in the MegadrumConfigTool folder so when you start the app, if it finds that file, it will automatically load.

By the way, did the last change solved the empty-window problem when doing the first execution of the app?

The windows on the first start now look all right. But I now have the same problem as ignotus - it says "Error trying to send the sysex file".
Also after choosing firmware file the "Instructions. send update now?" appears empty when I try to do the update first time after starting the application.

hmmmm some strange behavior with GUI under linux. I will have to install a linux to test it.
(with this mess it seems I am going to have cuadruple boot: xp, vista, ubuntu, mac  )

I have just sent you a PM, dmitri.

Was it only after the first run or now the firmware update does not work any more? you are talking about linux, don't you? cause I have tested it now in WinXP and works ok.

Yes, under Linux. The firmware update doesn't work any more no matter how many times I start the application.

Maybe some bad closing left midi resources locked.

Anyway, I have reuploaded it (to serfin.eu and to megadrum.info) changing the way it uses midi in & out. It now opens and closes mididevices with each transaction. Let's see if it works better now. I have tested it in windows and works ok

Dmitri, I have also uploaded to megadrum.info the install.jnlp (the original installation file).

It seems that Java Web Start does not like PHP files. If I install from the install.php each time I run the app the update progress bar appears and it's anoying. With the .jnlp file this does not happen. The only problem with the .jnlp file isthat is a filetype not recognized by your webserver so if you click the link the browser opens it as a text file. You have to select in the browser File-> Save as and save to harddisk. Then double clicking it launches the install / update.

We can use the .jnlp instead of the .php, but explaining with detail how to install it.
