I know for sure that the kind of resistor/capacitor you get makes no difference. As long as the value is the same (eg: 100ohm/22pf) and it fits on the board, you're good to go. Same deal eith the switch. A switch is a switch is a switch. If it meets whe requirements (momentary on, etc) use it. Same with the plugs. As I've learned, you're not forced to get those part numbers.

With jacks, the only thing I would really worry about is size and mounting style. Size so it fits correctly into your enclosure, and mounting style so you don't buy PCB mount Jacks when you needed solder pads.

I used the DIY etchant and it works as described. You still need to agitate the board in the acid to keep the copper from sitting in a layer on top of the board. I just stuck it in a Tupperware type container with the lid on and gently shook the whole thing back and forth. Took about 15-20 minutes to completely etch the main board. Of course take normal safety precautions like goggles and gloves.

Go to this excellent PCB making page: http://www.fullnet.com/~tomg/gooteepc.htm

And scroll down to the section titled "NEW ETCHANT UPDATE"
