Latency on fast rifs

Postby johnvpr » Mon Nov 24, 2008 1:05 pm

I've build my megadrum and it kicks, but I have a small Latency problem on fastest rif I can do.

I'm using USB, and tried also by setting config to latency to 10, but i'ts the same...

probably by using MD midi ports on my external soundcart(Tascam 144L) it will be faster than the pic conversion?

plus, can I power the MD with USB and use midi port?(disabling PIC conversion...)

No, both have the same latency, that is, aproximately zero

Don't quite get how you get a noticeable latency only on fast rifs - if the latency is noticeable, then it should be noticeable on all sounds, even single hits... unless you computer is not coping with many drum sounds coming one after another very fast.

You are right, i'm testing with bfd2(low samples) on a p4 3ghz 1gb of ram, I should try with a faster PC ;)

I think you should revise your operating system. With that machine, you have far enough to run bfd2(low samples). Enter http://www.musicxp.com to see tweak guide

Have you tried increasing buffers on your Tascam?

I got a question related to this topic, beside having ASIO drivers, is the sound card has anything to the latency/quality of sound I will get when plawing my drum with the MD + BFD (or other soft) ? I was thinking that sound card hasn't a big role as it just receive a midi signal and trigger a wav sound to play but a friend of mine, told me that I should buy a big/nice/expensive midi card. Any idea ?

Yeah, BFD2 is very hard drive intensive. Generally the most resource intensive drum VSTi I ever tried.

yes, but is the only vsti that gives you so much control over your edrum(from my edrum experiences)... take a look at this tutorials...
