Any trigger which produces variable output voltage with variable hit force can be used with MegaDrum.
Compared to piezo, QTC requires an external current source and is more expensive. Don't know it's dynamic characteristics though.

Teeny tiny QTC pills are available for about 12p; sheets of the stuff can be cut into any shape for about £1.50.
A cable (BNC connections) would also reduce it's resistance if twisted or bent by your hihat pedal.

hmm, I'm not sure if this is a valid idea I don't know much about the material, would it be possible to say attach this directly into a drum head? How durable would this be?

Make a few rings of it and attach inside a drumhead, could work as a variation of positional sensing...

Is it sensitive to vibrations too? If not this could this be the holy grail of high crosstalk situations?

Imagine a mat that attaches over an acoustic cymbal and has three zones + choke?

I like the cymbal idea because percussionists could use the so called choke just to muffle the reverberation of the thing.
I think the hihat was invented to do what the old swing guys did on a ride cymbal.
Gongs get warmed up for the big one by getting the outer edge quietly vibrating whilst muffling the volume from the center.
Use a violin bow on the edge of large crash and you can very nearly pick off and mute individual overtones with your finger.

You need to be a nutter to like that sort of thing.
