Sticky threads for best diy designs.

Postby hchriste » Wed Feb 11, 2009 8:12 pm

Just want to hear you guys if I am the only one who thinks there should be some special threads in here for best practice DIY designs. Not so mutch interms of playing style, looks and feel, etc. but more in terms of witch design works the best with megadrum.
Maybe even seperate threads for snare, toms, cymbals ... ?
What u think?

My guess is that in most of the cases once it's built and it worked people just drum away:) They usually are drummers in the first place and DIYers only in the second (if at all). Look at viewtopic.php?f=3&t=137 - there are many more than 24 MegaDrum owners by now but only a few of them voted. That's life and it's the same thing with most of other things/projects/forums, you name it.

Yep. It seems with anything like this that people will join the forum, ask for help, build the device and once it's done... well, they don't return! People with problems stick around and are vocal but those who just do it right and enjoy it, outside from a core few people, don't really stick around.

I think the vdrums forums are a better place if you want to learn about DIY triggers but I see your point about designs that specifically work well with MegaDrum... it just seems to me that MegaDrum is flexible enough to work well with a lot of different designs.

I bought commercial pads but the DIY stuff is interesting none-the-less. I may expand my kit eventually and the DIY route is cheap and fun!

I plan on sharing my DIY pad results as soon as I can get the time to work on my A-to-E conversion.

I haven't searched this forum much yet, but it might be useful to have a comprehensive graphical reference for the specific sampling/windowing algorithms used by Megadrum. Maybe an oscilloscope trace of the "ideal" piezo input waveform for Megadrum, if such a thing exists.

Anyway, I'll try not to disappear from the forum once I'm totally satisfied with my build. :)

Well to the people who are reading this and are currently building. You should definetely stick around after you build the Megadrum, unless ofcouse you stop using it. The thing is, you will never be done. It can always get a little better.
