The LCD reads Fw Updater 16MHZ, so I think I have selected the proper speed (checked the PCB crystal just to be 100% sure).

And still not able to update the firmware? In this case describe step-by-step how you do the whole procedure starting with how you configure MIDI-OX.

Well this could be the problem. I assumed that since MCT asked me if I wanted to upgrade, it could perform it on its own. Do I need MIDI-OX? I feel like I missed something I should have read. If so, could you please point me in the right direction?

All I've done is what I wrote in the second paragraph of the first post in this thread.

I guess since you managed to erase firmware by just pressing keys, your bootloader is of old version without protection from accidental firmware erasure and MCT should be able to update your firmware just fine. Follow firmware update procedure from http://www.megadrum.info/configtool/
If it doesn't work, describe step-by-step how you do it in smallest details.

And don't forget to select correct MIDI ports in MCT (MegaDrum USB or USB Audio depending on what name windows assigned to MegaDrum).

The firmware is still not loading.
Here's what I did:
1. Downloaded latest firmware here: (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=58) and copied the file named megadrum32_16_32_20090306.syx to my desktop.
2. Plugged in USB interface to computer & megadrum (note USB is only cable I connected).
3. Opened MCT and following directions provided here (http://www.megadrum.info/configtool/) I confirmed USB Audio Device was set as the MIDI OUT device for the app and then selected the menu option Firmware->UPDATE FIRMWARE. I was then promted to Select Firmware Sysex to send to Megadrum.
4. I selected megadrum32_16_32_20090306.syx from my desktop. MCT "Send update now?" box appeared.
5. Unplugged MD and then plugged it back in with the left button pressed. MD started up with the "Fw Updater 16MHz DOWN-ok.UP-clock" message.
6. Pressed down button on MD and message changed to "Fw Updater 16MHz Send Sysex now".
7. Clicked Yes in the MCT "Send update now?" box.
8. "Error trying to send Sysex file" box appeared in MCT

I don't have a lot of time especially during the week and so I work on this when I can which is why it took me so long to try this. What am I doing wrong?

Try this: viewtopic.php?p=6603#p6603
If it doesn't work, again describe step-by-step what you did and confirm that at step 5 the MIDI LED comes on.

Looks like I have the same problem he did. I followed the directions as follows and the LED never came on.

1 boot up MD with left button pressed
2 start MCT, select Megadrum MIDI USB for both MIDI Input and Output. (One thing I didn't mention was that when I started MCT a "New Version Released" box appeared asking me if I wanted to update. I clicked no so that I could follow the procedures properly.)
3 Firmware-Update Firmware
4 open "megadrum32_16_32_20090306.syx"
5 down button on MD. The LED should come on (but it didn't).
6 In MCT click "Yes". The LED should start flashing (but it didn't).
7 After about 10 seconds MD should show 'Update finished' and restart itself in about 2 seconds (but it didn't)..

What next to try? The MIDI-OX method? If so, do I need to build a cable for this?

By the way, thanks again for the quick reply, MUCH appreciated.

Looks like you have the latest version of the bootloader after all so you should do it with MIDI-OX. Follow this: http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=622 and come back with the results

I found the first few paragraphs for programming MD bootloader (http://www.megadrum.info/content/programming-mcus) to be a bit confusing. My question is do I need to build the ISP cable mentioned or can this all be done through the USB port?
