You already have the bootloader programmed so you don't need an ISP cable.

I don't think it worked, but just to be sure, can you tell me what values I should have for Low level Input Buffers (size and number) and Low Level Output Buffers (size and number)?

I originally changed the Output buffer size to 60000. When that didn't work I changed it back to 256 and changed the output buffer number to 60000 (the procedures you gave didn't specify which setting in the output buffers should be 60000). When I did this I think some of the input buffer settings changed automatically so I'd like to try this one more time with the buffer settings corrected.

Output Buffers Size is 60000
Output Buffers Num is 16 (as default)

And what about input buffers?

Don't change it. Actually for the firmware update input buffers size/num doesn't matter.

It's still not working. Also I just saw that the procedures DO specify Output Buffers Size to 60000. Sorry for that. Following the procedures here's how far I got:

1. Plugged in MegaDrum up while holding the key LEFT pressed.

2. Started MIDI-OX. In MIDI-OX menu went to Options->Configure Buffers and confirmed Output Buffers Size to 60000.

3. In MIDI-OX menu went to Options->MIDI Devices and in 'MIDI Outputs' selected USB Audio device.

4. (N/A)

5. In MegaDrum pressed the key DOWN. Megadrum displayed 'Send Sysex now'.

6. Since (I believe) I have a new type of bootloader in MIDI-OX I went to View->SysEx... In the SysEx window went to Command Window-> Load File... and loaded the erase_firmware.syx file.
Still in the SysEx window went to Command Window->Send Sysex. Waited 30 seconds, but never saw 'ERASED' on MD (Send Sysex now message never changed).

Actually, thanks to you, I just made the corrections to the instructions to mention it is Size specifically.

5. In MegaDrum pressed the key DOWN. Megadrum displayed 'Send Sysex now'.

Are you sure that after this step the MIDI LED doesn't come on and that the MIDI LED is not connected in reverse (i.e. do you remember this LED ever to light up)?

I just tried again to be sure. The LED did not light up after I pressed down in step 5. And I am sure it worked before. I actually installed it backwards originally and had to reverse it (it then worked) so I am sure the LED polarity is now correct.

At this stage, provided you select the right crystal frequency, i.e. matching the actual Atmega crystal and that you actually press the DOWN key (i.e. it is not mixed up with the RIGHT key) and that your MIDI LED is really ok (which I doubt, and your bootloader is in fact of an old type) I would suggest you to try the procedure on another computer.

The reason I doubt that the bootloader in your Atmega of a new type is that you were able to erase the MegaDrum firmware by just pressing keys in first place. Who did you get your Atmega from?

This is why I assumed I had a new bootloader:

Looks like you have the latest version of the bootloader after all so you should do it with MIDI-OX. Follow this: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=622 and come back with the results

Confirmed crystal is 16MHz. If I had pressed the right button, would the 'send Sysex now' message appear? I will double check the wiring. If my LED is not working, it must've broken while installed. I know that it worked before I tried updating. I have a laptop so I will install the necessary programs and give it a shot on another computer.
