Stuck on copyright screen

Postby Thurston » Wed Mar 25, 2009 3:26 am

I just started going through the configuration process and I'm already stuck :x !
Here's what I did:
1. Autoload config -> set to yes
2. MIDI Speed -> set to 38400 (I was testing the Autoload config. After reading further into the config instructions I realized that I shouldn't have done this)
3. Waited to exit menu
4. Checked to confirm Above settings
5. Waited to exit menu
6. Restarted by unplugging and re-plugging USB cable
7. MD LCD stayed stuck on first (copyright) screen
8. Restarted with right button held to pass autoload config
9. Still stuck on first (copyright) screen
10. Swallowed my pride and posted my issue here before I screwed it up worse  . I will be more careful and take my time from here on.

Are you sure you're pressing the key RIGHT?
Are you sure none of the keys are stuck or you don't have shorts on the keyboard wires?

The right button is wired properly (Keyboard Pin 1 to on Synthex 2.8 board to "NO" tab on button, Keyboard Pin 5 to "C" tab) and there are no visible shorts on any of the button wiring.

The buttons don't appear to be stuck. I haven't checked with a meter but they all click when pressed and return when released.

Is anything connected to the inputs?

Let's assume it is stuck on the copyright screen due to a bug in the firmware and not due to an electrical problem. Loading a different version of the firmware via a bootloader will restore MegaDrum to a default state. You have to load a different version of the firmware for MegaDrum to invalidated any configurations saved in EEPROM.
So, load via the bootloader an old version first, e.g. this one:
megadrum32_16_32_20090203.syx

And then load via the bootloader the latest version of the firmware.
After this MegaDrum definitely has to get unstuck. After this repeat all the steps you did to make MegaDrum stuck and describe them here so that I could reproduce and fix it.

OK thanks I'll give it a shot. By the way, I also wanted to mention that after I upgraded to the latest firmware yesterday, the firmware screen on the LCD in MD confirmed that I had the latest version installed (20090306) but when I started MCT it still detected 20081222 and asked me if I wanted to update.

I loaded the firmware you posted with MIDI-OX, and that worked to get it unstuck. The MIDI LED flashed about twice per second until the MD display reported it was updated, the MD reset and the MIDI LED flashed once more.

I then loaded the newest firmware (megadrum32_16_32_20090306.syx), again with MIDI-OX. This brought me back to the beginning.

To try to re-stick it:
1. I pressed right to get to 'Autoload Conf', then up to change to 'yes'.
2. Pressed right again to get to 'MIDI Speed" and pressed up to get to "38400".
3. I then waited to exit menu mode, pressed right again to check the changes in settings I just made.
4. Again, I waited to exit menu mode and then unplugged.
5. Plugged back in and it appears to work fine. Checked my settings and they have been reset to default.
6.Did it all over again with the same results.
7. I did the same thing a 3rd time, but this time I also went to 'save config' and pressed up until '1'. Again, when I reset I had the same result; MD reset back to its default settings.

The only difference that I can see is that (1) I am using my computer at work instead of home, and (2) I do not have a drum plugged in this time. I will try this again when I get home to see if this made a difference.

Are you saying that now AutoloadConf set to Yes doesn't load saved configs for you?

That is correct. It doesn't load settings from the last session, it returns to default settings.
