Is there no resistor or component on the MD that I could replace that would fix this problem for me? After all if I'm gonna set my gain to ZERO on everything, then I would think cutting my velocity's in 1/2 across the board would still give me plenty of headroom to increase the gain accordingly.

You should also consider the physical aspect as well. Try dampen your mesh, lower your cone, place a (or another) thin layer of rubber between the piezo and the cone, etc.

I was 12 minutes away from adding trimpots to nearly all units in my set... physical damping did the trick, fast, flexible and cheap.

MD has nothing to do with the VST/samples being played. Again, it just sends MIDI NOTE and VELOCITY. That's it. The VST does the rest. So MD has no ability to directly affect the "sound". You should use MCT or MIDI OX or some other MIDI Monitor so see the actual MIDI output from MD. I suggest MCT as it's easy to view and use with nice little meters and numeric indicators as the the MIDI Velocity output.

Just to clarify. You're dealing with two separate things. MD and it's MIDI output, and your VST and the huge amount of features it provides. Note each VST will perform differently. And usually each kit within the same VST will perform and sound much different. And the better VST have an asswad of mixer and insert/bus features available which further complicates things. Thus focus on MD's performance for now by viewing the actual MIDI output.

jeffbeckib wrote:Here is my understanding based on pure logic, that being said, I too am no expert, but here it goes:
Velocity is how hard you are striking the pad, based on that the sound engine takes that velocity value and determines which multisample to play. Example, a harder strike will trigger a sample of the drum struck harder, a soft strike will trigger a sample of the drum hit softer.

Correct. However, the VST not determining the sample to play based on you striking the pad. It's determining which sample to play based on the MIDI output of MD. Ideally they'd be the same. ;)

[quote="jeffbeckib"Now, I don't know what the compression on MD is supposed to do

Review the documentation here: http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings It includes a decent text description as well as visual representation of what it's doing to the input signal. At least I believe that's affecting the raw input signal VS the MIDI Velocity rendered (though they're related).

Regardless you should be reviewing the raw MD MIDI Output. Give MCT a try. You can get it here: http://www.megadrum.info/configtool/ And directions on how to set it up so both MCT and your VST can receive the MIDI output here: http://www.megadrum.info/content/access ... ltaneously

I'm sure you could install trimpots or resistors on the physical input jacks on your MD. Or replace the 4k7 resistors on the board with something larger to further reduce the input voltages, though the latter is just a guess. Either way it's the same amount of physical work - you have to solder some stuff to something. ;)
